On Tuesday, Nebraska Senator Dave Bloomfield (Hoskins) tabled a bill that would have extended conceal and carry privileges to military spouses, because the law could apply to same-sex couples. Bloomfield's decision effectively kills the bill for this legislative session. Right to Keep and Bear Arms? Apparently not, if you are LGBT
Those of you who think the GOP is going to protect your right to keep and bear arms may want to reconsider that assum
ption. :)
This paragraph from the article sums it up nicely for me.
"Conservative ideology often involves a struggle between the Republican Party's professed commitment to personal liberty, and their desire to preserve existing hierarchies in class, gender, race, and sexual orientation. And of course it's ridiculously easy to bypass that stupid law. Just get a Utah or Florida non resident permit.
But I'd still take Nebraska over democrat controlled NJ, where the right to carry is not available unless you're a retired law enforcement officer or politically connected.
I still don't know if I'll be thrown in jail when I apply for a modification of my NJ firearms ID to reflect my corrected gender. It's quite possible.
