Title: so i think my tastes have changed
Post by: Madison (kiara jamie) on February 19, 2015, 12:03:53 AM
so just before christmas i stopped drinking coffee and also i changed my hrt since my T levels were within male ranges, my endo switched me from the pill to the patches, and since then i have noticed an increase in estrogen related changes that had slowly reduced over the past year due to my medication tolerances i believe

so the other day i got a coffee, the same as i always liked from before christmas and it tasted different, i thought it was dark roast so i got a new coffee and i guess it was me not the coffee, just wondering if any of you girls have noticed any changes in your tastes since starting hrt

Chocolate! I can't get enough of it. A roll of McVities Digestives Double Chocolate biscuits are easily dispensed with. om nom nom nom. Fruit and nut milk chocolate isn't safe nor is mint chocolate or even dark chocolate.

Before HRT I wasn't really that fussed on eating chocolate.

Estrogen made me suddenly crave variety. As a man, I ate the same things every week. As a woman, I began feeling the need to vary my diet and to try new tastes. My cravings were more pronounced. I would wake up and really want chinese or italian or whatever.

I was never able to tolerate any kind of hot spice before HRT (it had no flavor, just a burning sensation, even Tobasco sauce).  But after about a month, I started to crave hot sauce and could start to handle it in small doses.  8 weeks in I could eat something with cayenne or chili peppers and not feel like I was on fire.  Totally unexpected.

I also crave green olives (I can eat a whole cup of them), apples, and soya milk (I drink almost a liter a day). That never happened before HRT.

On the other hand, I've lost any desire to drink alcohol.  I used to have a couple of drinks a week, but now my last drink was probably new years eve.  It doesn't really do anything for me anymore.  Some of that might be the "calming" sensation HRT has given me, as I also don't have much desire to go out and party (I used to at least once a week).

I use to like  chocolate pre hrt now I love chocolate and only eat a piece 1/week because I could eat a whole bag at one sitting.

I use to love really hot peppers ( I eat peppers, olives, spicy pumpkin seeds, nuts, oatmeal and pickles for breakfast during the work week) now I get mild peppers. I eat a large bottle of Cholula sauce a week.

I think I am the opposite. I couldn't care about sweets but rather been binging on salt, salt salt.
Chips, Pretzels especially ketchup flavored potato or dorito chips that's pretty much game over for me LOL.

I haven't noticed any change in my food/drink tastes yet. I've never been that crazy about chocolate or sweets, so it would be pretty funny if I developed a sweet tooth after all this time. I have, however, completely cut alcohol out of my diet since starting HRT. I'm all paranoid that it might react badly somehow. :P

Darn it, Carmen! You're making me all hungry with your delicious salty snacks. *ventures off into kitchen*

A lot of taste changes. Like:

I love spicy food now and I go through a bottle of hot sauce a week
I never could stand mango, now I love it
I used to hate soup now I love soup
I like vegetables much more
I have more of a candy craving
I'm no longer a fan of white bread

Weird stuff like that.
