Title: Hi
Post by: Menoimagination on February 19, 2015, 03:43:03 PM
Hi, I am Luke and I figured I should introduce myself. I was born and then the doctors decided I was a girl. My mum brought me and my siblings up to not care for gender roles. My sister and I built a bunk bed at age 5, we were provided with a variety of toys. Other parents thought my mum was awful for letting her kids play with "boy" toys and "girl" toys. This was great, I agree that toys shouldn't be gendered they should just be toys. Unfortunately because I didn't know what "boy" and "girl" were, I was really confused. But I've discovered that I feel most comfortable as Luke, and most people accept me as this (or to put it in the wonderful words of my Italian friend, "I don't care if you are [insert birth name], Luke, Gianni, Raviolo.... Really I don't care, I love you as the person you are". I'm finally (sort of) happy being me. I've been lurking on here for many years but I only decided to get an account the other day. Hi. I should stop babbling. :)

Welcome to Susan's!

Glad to have you around, Luke. You've probably already seen that we are a friendly bunch. Make yourself at home!

It's always nice to have so much support, and I'm certainly glad you do. I myself grew up in the country when I was young and there certainly weren't many gendered toys or roles when I was a kid. It was mostly a game to see who could get muddiest quickest.

I feel really supported, especially now I know I have this site to ask people for advice and help (because as much as my friends try, they don't have the expertise of someone who has been in similar situations like people on here).  :) I'm really glad this site exists.

Hi Luke! Welcome aboard! It's great to have you here.  There's lots of guys (and girls) here who can relate completely to what you're going through now and may have some very helpful advice for you.

See ya around the site!

Hi Luke,

I also never had any parents saying that some toys were for boys or for girls. I just ended up liking my Tonka trucks and army men while one sister favored Barbie and the other electronic gizmos.  I also got confused when I first figured out that people didn't see me the way I saw me.

Welcome to the place where it isn't quite so confusing anymore.

Hey there Luke, welcome. :)

Your tale of toys reminds me of when my Mother took me to get a bratz doll to play with my Sister and her friend, and she let met get a boy doll and put dads cologne on it for me.

I'm pleased knowing that other parents out there let their kids chose the toys as well.

I'll catch you 'round. :)

Hi Luke, welcome to Susan's Place! I'm from Boston. I have to admit, I'm a little ticked off about the babbling coming to a screeching halt!  See you around the site!
