Yep  I agree.
Only Meds I'm on now is estrace...and I doubt there'd be any impact forgetting for a few days.

I doubt a few days without it will have much if any effect at all, if I understand correctly most Dr.s require folks to go off HRT at least a week before any type of surgery

This doesn't make sense as every surgeon I know requires you to be off all hormones weeks before surgery.

I went to a well known Canadian dr. however I did not stop hrt they still operated. Maybe I literally stopped the day before and day after. As such I have no idea what to experience these next 4 days and am looking for help on what will happen.

There is only 1 place to have surgery in Canada, and they require hormones be stopped at least a week before.
In the pre check in, they ask again how long you've been off hormones as there is a risk to your health.

Kind of a snarky reply you have for people who know you don't continue meds to day before surgery.
Also, if one has a question about hormones, wouldn't you contact your family doctor or endo?

K here is a cool story:
I drove 15 hours to visit a friend. I am now at friends apartment and realized I forgot my hormones at home and since I am 3 provinces away from my home province I thought I could possibly get an answer as to what would happen via the internet.

Aww man! I'm right near dalhousie right now, near the bridge.

My Dr. recently retired and I left a message at the endo (Hes in Quebec so I'll probably get a reply sometime next year)

Let me just say this. For centuries there have been men that were fixed. I believe they were called unicks or something like that. They did not take any hormones once the stuff was taken out. They SURVIVED!

Crap I often wonder why I take a tiny does of estro years after SRS. I do care for a woman who has had srs way back in the 90s and she has not had any hormones in at least 10 years.

Hot flashes and other menopausal symptoms, possibly. Shouldn't be a big deal, and it'll ease up as soon as you go back on HRT. I've been off twice, once 3 weeks total for surgery and once for about 4-5 days while my liver was retested. No symptoms at all the latter time, but I was pre-op then. For GRS, I didn't have any significant issues until over a week into the withdrawal. Except that in the first week my, ahem, lower regions resumed normal size and operations. But that won't be a problem for you!

Fair enough. Rock the shades, kitty!

I'd say, based on your incredibly cool story, that you may experience some post menopause. I know that for me ... I forgot to take my medication for one morning and personally just felt super aggressive, but that stopped as soon as I took my medication later. Could have just as easily been a psychotropic response ... though even though I knew that it still didn't help my mood!

I think you'll be fine, Missy. Have fun!

Gee, what the heck was going on in this thread - did everyone go off their hormones or something? :P

I'd like to know the answer to the OP's question for future reference in general and also because I have to go off hormones soon for FFS.  For whatever reason my system really needs to keep its levels stable.  Maybe it's side-effects but when I delay my oral dosage too many hours I often start to get very tense, buzzing nerves like before I started HRT.  This may be more related to Spiro since I'm taking both that and E and I could just be unusual.  There was also one particularly bad emotional-crash incident at work where I had to leave two-hours into my shift - something went completely wrong with my system that morning.  I'm not taking any chances it was a fluke and neither is my employer any more.  It is very serious stuff when you have no reason to be upset and yet are uncontrollably sobbing in front of everyone when it is completely out of character.

The differences between suddenly stopping versus a controlled taper-off as with surgery would be interesting to know about.  I've always wondered how quickly the two major hormones can rise and fall.  I'm sure there's a good reason my doctor requires me to spread my dosage out over the day.

(Violet : I should probably clarify, there was no tapering for me. :) I'm on patches, so it was cold turkey; took the patch off on the mandated day and didn't use another until I left Montreal.)

From a pre-op point of view with chemically induced very low T it takes several days to a week to really notice. ( WTF am I doing ??? experiences ). From what I understand post-op dosages are far lower. So we're not talking a major drop to begin with.

Now, considering you're freaked out over maybe freaking out..... I'd say 15 Hrs  ;D

Missy, you're probably having more of a reaction to reading this thread than you will from skipping a few days of HRT...

I've stopped patches a few times and not tapered it down. I don't remember it exactly as last time was a few years ago, but it took a while to feel the difference and its wasn't that great. Earlier on the effect was larger, but I think I hadn't  adjusted to it so much. Perhaps my T was higher. If it were me I'd not worry about 4 days. Might feel a bit down, but that's the worst I'd expect.

You don't need to stop estrogen implants for SRS, at least for some surgeons.

One time, I missed my pills for 3 days, and I found myself hiding behind a chair after the biggest fight in the universe with my girlfriend, and there was a... suicide was a pretty big thought.
Then, this one time, I didn't take my pills at night once, and I couldn't tell if I took them or not, because my new phone doesn't say whether a pill alarm went off or not, and I found myself hiding under a desk thinking about killing myself again.
So then, this one time, I went to a new doctor, and he changed my dosage to once a day, and increased it a bunch, and I found myself 'wanting' to hide under a desk. I evened out though... and boobs happened.

So yeah, for me it sucks when I miss a dose. But eventually I'll even out, but before I even out it feels like the world is flying by and I have to make split second decisions on everything. It's pretty stressful. That said, it looks like you're post op, so I have no idea. It also looks like some around here have missed a dose or two and not had much happen. I use a pill box organizer thing now, and keep a few doses on me at all times in case I'm not home (I travel a lot).

Sorry, it came off that way, I simply gave my experience. I'm a woman of few words. Four days without I didn't really notice.. Day 6 was when it got a little bit fun..
Title: Re: Not taking your hormones for 4 days

as I understand how my meds were prescribed, when I was pre, you have spiro which is countered with the estrogen.
Now post op, and no testosterone, spiro was eliminated from my daily routine. My post op bloodwork showed estrogen level 3x normal, so estrogen was cut in half because of long term risks.
So a postop, at least in my case knows that a reduced estrogen or missing a few days wouldn't cause death as was the original question?
Final note: I tend to ask my doctor and endo about medication as only they know my bloodwork.

OK I asked a GM to respond as I'm feeling ill.

The op wanted comfort.

We can all understand that. Life is scary, we have few friends. Maybe we think what would we say to a girl friend asking a question?

Now how many of us grew up when our bestie asked how to insert a tampon? Maybe none of us?
But that is what girl friends do.!

So we are each other's bestie, we respond as such.

Just my stupid opinion

Cindy

I stopped all hormones a week before a different surgery. I may be an exception, but I didn't notice any major shifts in mood during that time. (But I was soooooo glad when I could take them again). I'm sorry to hear this happened.

Same here, I had some bone spurs removed and a torn ligament repaired in my shoulder  :P  Altogether including healing time was about a month

I didn't like having to go off the girl juice for awhile and was pretty nervous  :-\   But such a short amount of time passed quickly and didn't seem to really make much of a difference in the long run

I was glad when I could restart my HRT regimen and really glad to have a functional arm again  :)

Fretting arm or picking arm?  The only good thing that became of carpal tunnel for me was learning slide.  Maybe I'll get that fixed after a few other things.

In my case I can go 3 days and not notice, infact I'm pretty bad for forgetting to take them.
After 4days or so I get subtle flushes, nothing severe and slightly disturbed sleep. after a week I get definite hot flashes sweats insomnia feeling like crap ect.
It reaches its worse after 2 weeks where I get achy joints fatigue and generally feeling 30 years older than I am. After 6 weeks or so it actually abates slightly but still feels lame.
