Title: I don't Know If I Should....!
Post by: MelissaAnn on March 02, 2015, 09:24:29 AM
My best friend of 43 years is very accepting of me and is very proud of me and is amazed at the courage I'm showing taking this step. I love him dearly. Here is the problem. He still hasn't met Melissa in person! He has been around my since I started my transition but he hasn't seen Melissa yet. I've been full time now for a little over two months now. He is grieving the loss of my male self and I really want to help him with this!

I've been thinking of doing something that will be extremely hard on me and just might jump start my dysphoria! My thought was to have him over and be in guy mode when he gets here, have a beer with him and give him a chance to say good bye to my old self. Let him know this will be the last time he will ever see him. Then get up and change do my makeup and then introduce him to Melissa. I willing to do this for his sake because he is my best friend in the world!

Any opinions would be appreciated!

Melissa Ann

What does he think? My opinion doesn't matter. His does, and yours.

Well it's up to you. Those I've come out to I presented female to right away because I was tired of hiding.

But if it's just for a few hours I don't see why it would be a big deal.

I put on old guy clothes when I get dirty around the house, doing repairs and stuff. Housework (dishes, cleaning, firewood) I'm myself though.

You don't have to go to guy mode.  And you don't have to get dolled up.  Wear whatever is comfortable for you and just be authentic with your friend.  He misses your friendship, and you can show him that although you are feminine, you can still enjoy your common interests together.
I don't know about you, but beer makes me bloated and gives me a headache on top of the unneeded calories.  It has to be really good beer before I'm interested, I love IPAs. [emoji4]

Ask him how he would like to deal with it. His feelings matter too.

Well I would think he has no one to say goodbye to. You're still here aren't you? That's what I told people who said they missed the old me... I'm still the same person just with the right wrapping now. By all means have a drink but it's time to move forward so introduce him to the real you and celebrate rather than commiserate.
