Poll
Question:
Where do you stand in the birth order in your family?
Option 1: Eldest child
Option 2: Middle child (eg 2nd of 3, 3rd of 4 etc)
Option 3: Youngest child
Option 4: Only child
If GD is a biological thing, then it's nature rather than nurture that has set us the challenges that we face as transgendered individuals.
That said, it's fairly well-documented that birth order has a profound effect on development. I'm interested to know if there is any kind of statistical relationship between birth order and GD. I have never seen anything that says as such, but let's see what we get.
For the record, I'm the youngest of four.
Eldest of three... sorry, skewed your results already!! ;D
Only child... Another skewed result...
Eldest of 6, so much for that theory.
Youngest of three, also my mother had several miscarriages before me and I was the only one blessed with the family curse which came from my fathers side .Born 1950 and most of those that are older here understand what that means. High probability of DES exposure.I am who I am I have accepted it and have happily gone on with my new and better life. Patty
Eldest of 2, but real close to my mother and my sis... she has always been bigger then me so I was able to steal cloths :P
I am the eldest of three half brothers and one half sister. There is a chance that any of my other brothers could also have PAIS, and not know. The funnest thing is, I'm the shortest out of all of my siblings even my sister.
Eldest child in the lead!!
Youngest of 2, but my older brother was adopted.
Youngest of Twins. Brother is a few minutes older.
I've two older brothers and one younger, I'm pretty sure my parents were expecting me to be a girl.
Eldest of two here.

I've got an older sister and a younger half brother.

Eldest of three here. Onoes!
I'm the shortest out of them.
However I potentially have DES in my history so I may skew your results.
I have an older brother
I'm the eldest as well.
Oldest of two, I have a younger sister.

Sydney, I don't know what happened but WOW to your new avatar!
Well, isn't this interesting. I'm not sure what I was expecting with this, might have to fire up the SPSS after all :D
It will be interesting to see how this one develops.

From what I heard, the second child onward has a better time because the womb is "broken in" already from the first. But I could be wrong.
youngest of 2.. have one big brother who is 6 years older than me but my mom had a misscariage so we were supposed to be 3 kids i would still have been the youngest in any case
Eldest of two transgender children. FtM brother is 3 years younger.
As a side note, we're the only transgender individuals anywhere in our family, both immediate and extended members counted. Really makes you wonder about my genetics...bahaha.
Only child of my mother. I've got two older half-brothers on my father's side.
Eldest of 3
1 sister, 1 brother
I have two older sisters and one younger sister. I'm a middle child.
I have 3 older sisters. They are 12, 10, and 7 years older.
My dad had 5 sisters and he was the send youngest...
Eldest of 9/3 people... Should that have been posted in the bad jokes thread ???
Have a 5 year older tomboy sister (no GID). Thinking age of father would have some bearing since he was 43 when I was conceived and as far as DES possible era but mom says she didn't take anything. Also born premature as was sister.
Eldest of 3 here.

I am the oldest of four and my two younger brothers and sister are completely cis and doing well at it... Well I cant say the same for me.... I dont think it matters at all but the poll is interesting seeing as Im in the majority here as the first born ;)
Youngest of six, four older brothers one sister.
I am an only child.. it was hard on my father when his only son transitioned into a woman.. he blamed himself... he actually never spoke to me again.. he has passed away.. I am very close to my mother now.. she loves having a daughter.
Eldest of two here.
I have a younger brother who while not particularly macho is very clearly cis gendered M
I am the Eldest of 3 too
Hmm statistically we are seeing the eldest many times above all else, of 2 and 3's seem fairly even....
Never sure of Statistics as the results are skewed because of availability of knowing of the volume of respondents (targets) within groups ... ????

I'll be another skewer, even at this late date.
A few months back I read "The Birth Order Book" I believe was the title. According to the author, though I am technically The Baby, there is also 6 years between me and my older (first born) brother, so I share many of the traits of both eldest and baby. Maybe explains why I tend to abhor "Change" yet......
I'm not too surprised at the results so far. The eldest are the most daring, going where no one has gone before. Many of my support group members are first borns. I think that used to facing challenges and being daring attitude is a good part of the reason why so many are the eldest
Eldest of two.
only child :D , kinda sad...
I am the oldest of two. Despite living in the same house, I hardly ever saw my younger sister in the final years before my transition. She is clearly cisgender but does not seem to care much about her femininity. Ironically, my sister dumped her fiancé a few years ago for coming out as transgender, yet my transition has actually put me on much better terms with her because we are more relatable now that I am presenting as female. :)
Middle of 5. I don't see many middle peps lol. I have two older brothers and two younger brothers and most of my cousins are all male on my dad's side. Its very even/down the middle in terms of gender on my mothers side out of all my cousins. My poor mother thought she had no girls after 5 attempts but learned she did after I came out to her. It's interesting to see most of the people here are mostly the eldest so far.
I'm the eldest of two latchkey kids just a few years apart.
Eldest of Two, got me a baby sister 14 months younger to the day
Youngest of 2, I have an older brother. I also have 3 younger half siblings, a brother and twin half sisters.
In a family of 5 kids I was born 4th, my twin came 20 mins later. I have an older sister and the rest are my brothers.
