Hey, guys. This is my first time on this website. I'm not sure if I am writing this post under the decent topic - I apologize for any inconvenience if that is the case. See - I am going to be on T soon (finally! 15 days from now I'll have an appointment with my endo and she will be prescribing my medication.) I'll be using Nebido. I know it is one hell of an injection, [every 10 to 13 weeks,] and that scares me a bit cuz I am used to hearing about guys who take shots of every 2 weeks or so. I know I could obviously talk to my endo about this, but it will take the longest time until I see her personally, and my anxiety being too unbearable at times, I decided to reach out to you guys - specially since I don't have any contact with any trans guys! I live in a small town and I don't have any friends [I do have some, it's not like I don't know anybody, but yeah.]
So - I was wondering if anybody could tell me their experience on Nebido? I am personally looking for somebody to talk about the physical changes they experienced while being on it. Do they take longer to come through considering the period of time between the shots and the fact that your system takes longer to absorb the injection a.k.a that Nebido it's a slower release Testosterone injection? Does it make any difference doing shots every 10-15 weeks from doing shots every 2 weeks, physically wise?
Also, acne. Did you guys have any bad, relevant experiences with acne? I've had some moderate acne pre-t and I was put on birth control pill in order to control them, I don't have PCOS, but I do seem to have some sort of hormonal imbalance and I am scared that my acne will come back in full force once I start T. I will no longer be able to be on birth control pill and I am scared about what I am going to do to handle acne.
Well, those are my questions! I'm sorry if they're silly, but I am very, very tense by nature and have many silly worries I sometimes I can't control. Either way I appreciate you taking the time to read and reply!
Best wishes.
K.
P.S.: I MIGHT have messed up and posted this twice. I'm literally a newbie here. Shame. I apologize!
No Dosages Please
Hello and welcome!
I started T on july of last year and I first got on Nebido (every three months) and got switched to Deposteron (every 20 days) a few weeks ago. Nebido is slower releasing, but because it is a bigger shot, it should keep your T levels around the same as Deposteron, but more stable (at least that's what my doctor told me).
Nebido worked pretty well for me on most aspects. I got hairier, my face got more masculine and my voice had a noticeable drop around the five month mark. My periods never stopped (though they got shorter and more spread out) and that was the main reason my endo changed my T, but that's probably related to my organism. All the other guys who I've heard of being on Nebido had their periods stop.
I got a little acne, but less than I had on my first puberty.
Also, the fact that it's a bigger shot was actually better for me, in the sense that I had to have injections less frequently. The pain of the actual shot is pretty much the same, in my experience.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask!
Proton,
thank you so much for your reply! You clarified many things to me and in a way, you made me a lot less anxious. I'm glad Deposteron is working well for you!
I've been doing some research, and a lot of people have been pointing out the fact that doing injections less frequently is a big plus that comes with Nebido! I guess I'll start to understand that once I start using T. I assume it must have something to do with the pain you feel after you do the shot.
As for acne, my skin is really clean as of now. I know it won't stay like this once I start T [who knows, maybe] but at the same time I have hope it won't get too bad. I don't know what is the specific cause of cystic acne in trans guys, but if it's got something to do with PCOS at least I will be safe. We'll see. Either way, acne is something I will have to learn to handle it.
Thank you so much for your reply and congratulations on your progress! 7 months is such a huge mark. Keep doing you.
I'm surprised to hear that anyone would have their first T dose as Nebido. What if you are sensitive to T and have a bad reaction? People are on different doses of T in order to reach appropriate male levels. This is something I learned the hard way. My levels were WAY too high at a "standard, full dose".
There must be something I am missing here about Nebido. Do they do a lower than normal dose for the first round? I have always just assumed people were on T for quite a long period of time prior to Nebido, so they could be certain of the proper dosage for the preferred t levels.
Tell me what I am missing. I admit I haven't done any research on it, so I must be missing something as to why this is a good choice for a first dose.
Kimello,
The shot itself doesn't hurt much. You might be a little sore for a couple of days, but nothing to write home about. I do have a bit of needle anxiety, so the main pro for me was not having to deal with them as often.
Thanks! It's weird. For me it was like time wasn't really passing at all until I hit four months and then all of a sudden I'm almost eight.
Good luck with your appointment and starting T!
Brett,
From what my doctor explained, Nebido is very slow releasing, and your levels only reach "avarage male levels" after your third or fourth shot, so it's somewhat like the traditional slow dosage increase a lot of people do.
I did the normal dose from the get go. The normal interval is twelve weeks between shots, except for the second one, which is supposed to be six weeks after the first one (so as to get your levels to "normal" a little faster). I believe most doctors will also have you do a blood test after every shot, to make sure your levels don't go too high.
I started off my HRT on nebido and I got my second shot 6 weeks after the first one to build up my depo . After that every 8 weeks. Then after about 2 years I switched to testosterone enhanate, shots every 14 days and then back to nebido at around 4 years on T.
My changes came as fast as anyone else's when I was on nebido my first year. I had shark week one week after I started HRT then never again, I could grow a chin strap around 6 months on T , deepening of the voice was the slowest that came about 3-4 months on T but I think that's my genes not testosterone,I had a rather deep voice to begin with.
Hey Brett,
I don't really know what to tell you - I don't know much about hormones since I am Pre-T. I only know what my doctor told me. She said Nebido is the best hormone in the market (I know that doesn't mean much, but I don't live in Europe nor America, I live in a country where the health system is very poor, and the formula of almost every medicine is altered and is not as pure as it should be.) She also said that is the safest hormone in terms of side effects; using Nebido can prevent me from many things. The risk of getting liver cancer becomes minimum and my livers are way safer. Plus, I don't think my first dosage will be as high. The initial dosage will probably be a lot less and I imagine it will increase as time passes by. And I won't be doing shoots with weeks apart, I guess the injections will happen from 3-3 maybe 6-6 months [probably like Proton and Mackan said], that's what she told me.
That's all I know. I could give you more feedback once I go to the doctor and let in you on more details.
Proton
I appreciate again your helpful response. I don't think Needles won't be a problem for me. And, yeah, I think I know what you mean, even though I haven't started T yet. It really does take a while until we can perceive what's changed.
And thank you so much, man! I can't wait.
Mackan
Thank you so much, dude! Reading all of those positive changes that happened to you make me very, very happy! Both for me and you too. Congrats on your transition and thanks again for your outlook!

Hey, guys. Thanks so much for answering my questions. Definitely learned something new here! Good luck, Kimello. Sounds like it is a good product!
I'm on Nebido but I didn't start with it. I went the Testogel > Sustanon > Nebido route which is pretty common here.
I personally prefer being on Nebido due to the long time between the shots and because it keeps my levels more even compared to Sustanon. My acne also kinda blew up when I switched from gel to Sustanon but it's eased up a lot after switching to Nebido.
Can't really say anything about changes since all the initial ones I've had were mostly thanks to gel and Sustanon. But I discussed with another FTM sometime ago and he started out with Nebido. Compared to me, he had his voice change much faster so there's a possibility Nebido will get you changes faster than gel, for example.

Hey. Thanks for replying. I guess that the time between the shots doesn't make any difference after all. If anything, it seems to be much easier and less tiring, also more effective in a way? Anyway. Thanks again, man! I'm super excited about starting my treatment. Hope everything goes well to me as it did to you and your friend.
Brett
You're welcome! If you interested in acquiring more info, I could still come back to this post after my appointment and clarify any doubts you may have.
Congratz on starting hormones in 2 weeks!
Being that you will probably be nervous at your appointment, I would use that time until then to write down any questions related to the shot, side effects, what to expect, what to watch for, etc. so you don't scramble last minute as we know how nerves like to play with us...
I have never been on Nebido, so I cannot help with that. I do wish to point out that the rate of changes is different from person to person and it can be a quite drastic difference at that. Although very hard, try to concentrate on you in comparison to you before the shots, as opposed to you compared to others. I also found that taking pictures, voice recordings and notes of what i saw, felt and notices for changes was very helpful as we live with ourselves 24/7, sometimes things have slowly changed that we don't notice as much.
Take care bud and let us know how things go! Don't hesitate if you have any other questions as well!
Thank you so much, Eiahn! I'm super happy I am counting down every second. It's going to be quite the journey, but I am so excited. I'm gonna have to drive two hours to another city, go to the airport to catch a plane, fly to another state to see my doc, go to the appointment, then get back to the airport to catch another plane back home, but to me... That's nothing! When my family and I first went to see my doc, we drove for 12 exhausting hours. It's going to be a lot easier this time around and I am so relieved and glad my dad was able to transfer his air miles to me cuz avoiding big, extra costs at this point is really crucial. I feel really privileged.
Your suggestion is amazing. I do have so much to ask, so, so many questions, I'm definitely writing down everything I can think of so I can ask her and don't end up forgetting relevant stuff. I'm going to interview my family as well, cuz I'm sure they have as many doubts as me.
And you're right. Comparing your transition to others is nonsense and very unhealthy. You can already tell I've been sort of doing that. :D But, yes! I'm planning to document my transition by doing what you said: taking photos, videos, voice recordings and anything else I can think of. That is a great idea.
Thank you so much for your participation in this post and thank you for your help. And I'll definitely be coming back, whether it is to ask more questions or to help others. I've felt very welcomed here. You guys are really amazing. I appreciate the attention endlessly.
Best wishes to you, bud. Hope everything is well!
