Title: What kinds of activities do you do?
Post by: Beth Andrea on March 04, 2015, 08:40:58 PM
I'm just wondering...

For me, prior to transitioning, I was really "into" guns, hiking, etc. At least, that was my cover story. I ended up collecting a bunch of stuff n such, and then when I started transitioning, I "purged" everything and focused on makeup, clothes, etc.

But...now what? I've noticed I've started collecting the old stuff again. I can see myself going to the woods etc BUT I'm not sure I will actually like doing that...after all, I didn't like it before (it was a cover story, remember?)...

What other things do people do? Yahtzee, cards...sewing (which I do)...Hmm I seem to have run dry in the Deep Well O'Ideas.

Throw me a bone here ( <----LOL, see wut I did there...?) Random stuff = better, but normal stuff is appreciated too.

What do YOU want to do? Do it! My hobbies and activities didn't change. I still loved woodworking, hang gliding, and building computers. I did that. In recent years, I've started writing. That's mostly because I can't go backpacking anymore. I'd rather be in the woods than stuck in the house. But that's how it goes.

However, if there are things that you've always wanted to do, like sewing, DO IT! I've tried and I'm lousy. I'd have to learn and I don't want to spend the time. So my sewing machine is great for making covers for things. All I need to do is sew straight lines.

Chin up!

I like cutting things out on the scroll saw, some crocheting(I don't know how to do much), and I used to like playing an old guitar(its not playable now). Sometimes I will buy a small trinket to collect.

I really am a case of "Same monkeys, different barrel."  I still shred on the guitar, drink beer, watch sports (yay, baseball!), operate power tools and heavy machinery and spout colorful obscenities that would make most sailors blush.   I now also love cooking, dancing, shopping and other stereotypical "female" activities where I did not before.  Why?  They were major dysphoria triggers- reminders of what I was missing.   I used to avoid "girly" activities like the plague.

I would suggest trying new things that you might not have been open to before.  Who knows, maybe you'd enjoy Mah Jongg?

Reading comics, and writing/drawing same for me. It kind of waned a bit while I was going through the bumpiest parts of transition but now I'm back on a mostly even keel I'm into again.

I'm a freelance comic artist, animator, character designer and storyboarder. I still plan on doing this until the day I die. XD
Drawing is in my blood. :p

It hasn't really been impacted by my transition. Nothing will really. I'm still planning on doing the things I enjoy.
Sports, exercise, art of course.

The one thing that might change is that I'll be cosplaying more and more now as lady characters. I'm excited for that. :3

I've been doing sewing for years now (15, iirc) and I still get a thrill out of it. Currently making a skirt for myself! Made several dresses, and many other things (quilts, mostly)

I have most of the components from my old man-cave, a small workbench, drill press, angle cutter, etc. Don't remember what I did with this stuff as a guy-impersonator, but I've used it for a few things since. I do like creating things with wood, metal, etc.

Cooking! OMG yes I love doing that now! My first made-by-me meal was a bacon and eggs breakfast! OMG talk about satisfying! And as a bonus, I didn't burn the place down!!  ;)

I'm beginning to like dancing too. Usually takes a couple drinks to get me limbered up though...

Yes, I've played with Mah Jongg before, solitaire. Years ago. iirc it is a fun game.

More ideas!! Others might have wonder and amazement!

Writing (except for my personal journal) and drawing are not my fortes...I am stunned when I watch others drawing. Such skills! I do best with a straight edge and a compass, nothing freehand for me. I do like watercolors (usually doing landscapes, which everyone learned how to do about third grade...)

Now cosplaying (anime, yes?) I don't do...but to make a Yeoman Janice Rand miniskirt/dress...I got the legs for that!  ;) Add in a pair of knee-high boots and a phaser.... :P

I don't expect most of my hobbies and interests to change, just how I do them. I love riding my bike to get around my city. I used to do so with reckless abandon, hoping for an accident. I now stop at traffic lights, take it easy and pay no mind as to who may be passing me. The more care I have taken of myself the less I have wanted to risk injury or death. Hmm, go figure!

I also love long distance walking, I've covered 36 non stop miles in a day. This spring I'm signed up for my first marathon too. Appart from those interests? Cooking (been doing that since I could reach the stove) , art making, writing, shopping, going to museums, organizing stuff and I do enjoy housework. No joke. I've been wanting to get in to baking. I love gardening and yardwork too. Not so much grass and yards as planting and digging. I love stones and aranging them.

For a living I do the grunt work necessary to put on contemporary art shows. Lifting heavy stuff, carpentry, cabinet making, rigging, measuring, driving scissor lifts, and all kinds of slow, small quiet stuff like wiping the smudges off the walls for five hours with a sponge. I have always been a tomboy but a girly one.

My hobbies more or less stay the same - guns (trap/skeet, target shooting, 3 gun), cars, ham radio and electronics.

I do like clothes a lot more and I am re-learning sewing.

I always liked cooking but now I like it even more.

Not anime, mainly strong women characters for the most part.
I hear ya on the legs. Favorite part of my body. :D

I've always been into anything crazy.
Surfing, snowboarding, motorcycles, fast cars, mountain biking, RC anything.
Now that I'm about to start transitioning im actually trying to figure out what I actually really enjoyed and what was a cover.
I know quite a few things on that list are going to be removed in the near future.

This summer I plan on scheduling more time for my self to get out and ride my bike and to take my new stand up paddle board to Tahoe where cut offs and a bikini top will be my sunny day outfit of choice :)

Pre-transition it was - biking, hiking, Medieval swordfighting (armored and unarmored), jogging, archery, equestrian sports, wargaming and wargame miniature painting (Warhammer Fantasy and 40K, Flames of War). Now, it's biking, roller-skating, jogging, cooking, shopping. I still have a lots of Warhammer miniatures (and armor) around, but... I dont really want to enter into that competitive wargaming mentality and would rather enjoy returning to simply painting minis again, so, one day, maybe :).

Snow skiing; no changes there, bike riding; same, shopping; big change , good food, restaurants, red wine; no change, white wine; big change

Basically I think I have adopted more rather than lost any....  ::)

YouTube watching and video games occupy most of my time. Since transitioning, I do like doing paracord crafts (I make my own headbands) when I have time. I have other paracord projects planned but I don't have the time as of late. Someday, I would like to learn how to play the harp. I've always wanted to learn.

I have a pretty bad World of Warcraft addiction, watching Netflix, Anime, comics Marvel > DC, shopping, hiking, exploring. Interests stayed the same pretty much, I enjoyed shopping before I ever came out and other hobbies are pretty gender nuetral nowadays really. I do like gun ranges but I'm not allowed to own firearms anymore.

Play online games, watch tons of movies/shows on Netflix, and watch DIY videos (like how to make flower crowns, your own lipsticks, etc) on Youtube. :)

Pretty much the same as before except some became more enjoyable. Watching sports waned for awhile, but around the beginning of November returned with a vengeance. Shopping has definitely became my favorite past time now. I avoided clothes and shoe shopping before, but now I enjoy shopping for them. Reading, playing games, cooking, walking, hiking, and watching movies all stayed as activities I enjoyed. I have started to dable in some different arts and craft projects and have enjoyed what I have mad so far, which is an activity I didn't really consider giving time to before transitioning. The calendar I put together with pictures of the pets and family is by far the one I enjoyed the most so far

I draw, take photos, make music, research history, religions, science, etc.. I like to dance, sing.. craft.. I also like to cook. Explore the wild.. Kind of boring but these have always been my passions and I can't imagine them ever changing.. I think I am getting more into shopping as I actually want to shop for my clothes now.. lol!
