Title: Stomach sleeping
Post by: Freyjja on March 05, 2015, 06:39:41 AM
So I'm almost 2 months in, my chest is quite tender and I have this problem.
For my whole life I have slept on my stomach, I just find it the most comfortable way to sleep, however it's now impossible without wincing in pain haha xD

This might be dumb to ask, but has anyone else had this problem? I'm not sleeping as well as I used to because of this and was wondering if I'll be able to sleep comfortably on my stomach when they settle down or if I'll just have to adapt and sleep a different way?

I had to get a new pillow and get used to sleeping on my back.  2 years into HRT, I still am not comfortable sleeping on my stomach.  If you can't get comfortable on your back, if you use body pillows between your legs, it won't pull on your back or hips as much to sleep on your side.

Hope you can adjust, hugs,
- Katie

I still sleep on my stomach I just kind of angle my chest a little bit so that when it smooches the nipples are side ways. If they end up under my body weight it hurts way too much too sleep. I did have to sleep on my side a lot more earlier on, but still tried to make my stomach work then.

Early on your boobies will hurt a lot.  Any kind of pressure will bring a sharp pain and there will be a dull ache for quite a while. Eventually they'll get more comfortable. A bit of Tylenol or Aleve will help take the edge off. As they grow your sleeping will change. I was a c cup before implants and stomach sleeping was almost impossible. Now I sleep on my side..that's the only way I can stay comfortable.

If you can sleep with an arm under your chest that can help. I've always slept on my stomach and used to sleep on top of my arm having it right under my chest. It created the necessary 'pocket' of space to be able to sleep without squishing anything lol.

I gave up and sleep on my back now. Supposed to be better for you anyway.

I sleep braless.

Good thing we transwomen barely have to worry about breast sagging.  Take that gravity!

Honestly it comes and goes in a way, I think... There was a phase when I had to sleep in fetal position, not because of pain but rather because of a very large discomfort as I felt it pressing there and yeah it just wasn't comfortable....  However lately I don't have a problem sleeping on my tummy...  I guess it's to do with the whole sensibility coming and going...

I snore anyway so I'm not really concerned about reducing it. I may get a CPAP soon.

I was also a stomach sleeper.. but when I started HRT and my chest got tender... i had to find  a new way to sleep.

I am now side sleeper, I often sleep with a pillow between my legs too.. I sleep in a baby doll type nightie and a pair of panties and no bra.. (I cant sleep with a bra on) .

I have been told, that women don't sleep with a bra on anyway..

My wife when she was in her teens used to go to bed with a bra on, because she was told that it was needed to help her develop (she was not flat chested, but rather small). Funny thing is, once I met her and convinced her that she didn't need to wear a bra anymore to go to bed, she stopped wearing them, and her breasts started growing a bit bigger.

Maybe the bra actually prevented their growth...food for thought maybe

Yeah had to make sleeping changes too  8) found sleeping on side and in fetal normally, however if sleeping on Tummy I position one of my arms just below my bustline to ease pressure... But then I get pins and needles... Can't win

Actually I recall reading somewhere that sleeping on your tummy interferes with digestion etc... Can't think where I read it though?

Yep, and I just had to figure out a way to sleep in another position. In the beginning I'd fall asleep and then roll automatically onto my stomach, and wake up from the pain!

Unfortunately, by the time my breasts lost that tenderness (it does happen, eventually), I was too big to lie on them comfortably either. So for me it was farewell to stomach sleeping forever, alas.

I slept on my stomach for more than 30 years till I hurt my neck. After that, it was mostly side sleeping. When my boobies started growing, I started sleeping on my back more.

I love that this thread was here, since it's a question I've had a lot.

I've slept in my stomach for most of my life, starting HRT soon.  I'm trying to get used to sleeping on my back, it's even arguably more comfortable, but I just haven't managed to fall asleep that way.

Judging by what everyone here has to say, I might get used to it in a hurry like it or not once things start though.

Used to enjoy sleeping on my front (although I was also a back and left side sleeper too)... that pretty much stopped within a month of starting HRT. Haven't slept on my front for over 19 months now. :(

I need to give up stomach sleeping, too, cuz the girls don't like getting squished, and wake me up at 2 AM.

But after I turn on my side and fall asleep, I just roll back again. ;D

Hard to break a lifelong habit, even when it hurts!
