My dear ladies
I am going to have FFS with Dr Bart in Antwerpen on next March 17th, Saint Patrick's Day... I hope some Irish lady around may have some thought to me that day ;)..
He will basically do the bone shaving of the orbital rims, the hairline advance and eyebrow lift up, no heavy work on the upper face...
Then my nose will be reshaped, this is the major part of the job, he said he will spend more than 2 hours on it...
The cheeks will be filled with my fat, so I eat plenty of cheese those days, we have tons of it here in France...
Final step is the upper lip lift, and that's it, nothing is to be done on the chin, jaw or trachea... I'm quite lucky overall...
I am going to stay at the Enich Anders B&B, may be some other girl would be around between March 15th and 25th...
Below are links to some pictures of me such as taken some six months ago or so..with my still male face of course..

For sure I will have pictures taken after surgery of course, but I will not be able to upload them before being back home...
:D :D :D
Marie
good luck Marie!
Dr. Bart is on my list as well. It looks like you have a great palette to start with. DO you mind if i ask how much he is charging for just the procedures you are having?
Seconded, I would be curious to know the pricing as well, especially orbital rm shaving. To me, it does not really look like You need hairline advance, but maybe doctor knows better :).
I am not Irish, but will be turning 37 next March 17, so I will keep fingers crossed for Ya :)
I forgot to mention that I asked him to fix my left ear, total price is up to EUR 14.000 ... I think it is quite reasonable, even though it is a lot of $$$ of course ...
I think he did a very good evaluation of what you need. I think the procedures are spot-on. Good luck with your surgery.
Thanks a lot girls... now, 8 days to go... ;)
Ladies....
Now in Antwerp.... The pre op checks are for tomorrow....
Big hug! You must have butterflies in your stomach! Best wishes!

That s it ladies, more later
Marie
It's going to take a lot out of you. I hope you can rest up.
Hugs, Devlyn
Hi Ladies
I am back home now, I met Dr Bart yesterday for the final check, he commented positively about the future results... good.. he also removed the stiches, around the eyes, aooouuuch...
I have posted some bef/after pics below

The afters are from yesterday, no doubt I will look better in the coming days/weeks...
This was a great experience, I was emptied of my energy though, and I lost five kilograms...
I would recommend also the BB Enich Anders, the ladies are extremely kind ... and it is located one step ahead from Groen Plats, Central Antwerp...
There is no TV...
Cheers
Marie
The profile change is dramatic, congratulations.
Sure and I love my new nose, too... congrats are for Dr Bart, I just let him do...
You definitely look younger and much more feminine (though, extremely battered too ;).
Wish You speedy and hassle-free recovery and please do post more "after" pics :).
P.S. Btw, I am curious which kind of procedure Dr. used on Your forehead - was it Type I surgery (bone burring) or more sophisticated reconstruction?
Thanks! For sure I will post more along the days... He operated a basic bone shaving on my orbital rims since they were no proeminent enough to worth type III, by chance... My skin is still swelled and streched over the forehead this is maybe why I look younger, but I am 50 ....
Ah, I just now saw in Your first post that he intended to do bone shaving only (my mistake) - reason I was asking was that judging from Your before-pics, we have (nope, used to have!) very similar facial structure there.
And You did not look 50 y.o. in Your before pics either, so... ;)
Yes, and I needed no jaw or chin work too... this was even more chance I believe...

It's amazing how fast you heal Marie. There'll be a lot of changes and they will happen slowly, but I think if you look back in another 2 - 3 months you'll be amazed and very pleased!
Hi girls!
This is for me today operation day + 3 weeks... healing is going on, but slower than in the early days/weeks...I am still bruised and swollen...

Hi Marie,
Thank you for sharing all your pictures! I was wondering did you see any changes in shape or function in your eyes
after the midfacelift?
For me that is what i am worried about for a midfacelift because the skin around the eyes is so delicate.
Hi !
I cannot really state about my eyes shape since it is still swollen above and below them, for functionality it is ok. Did you hit such a problem?

Hi there,
Perhaps I can help. I had my surgery on the same day as Marie. In fact, according to my husband, we were in the recovery room at the same time, but I knew nothing of that at the time. I met Marie briefly the next morning when the nurse drove us back to our apartments.
Anyway, I had a 4½-hour operation which included Macslift surgery and necklift, upper eyelid surgery, lower eyelid surgery, tarsal strip and canthopexy. Regarding your question about the eyes, it has only be less than four weeks since surgery so it is too early to see the final result, but I should think twice about driving soon after surgery. The stitches are quite close to the eyes and, in my case, I found that my eye shapes were slightly distorted and, as a result, my glasses were unable to bring things into sharp enough focus to enable me to drive safely. A week or so later short drives were possible but I found that even a 20-mile round trip left me feeling really tired. That might be my age and younger girls might cope a lot better.
Regarding the delicate skin around the eyes, Dr Bart knows what he is doing and each eye had five very fine stitches very close to the eye and a loop stitch top and bottom of each eye. Dr Bart removes these stitches a week after surgery. However, in my case I returned to the UK five days after surgery and made an appointment for two days later with a nurse at my local GP's surgery to remove the 10 tiny stitches. Dr Bart told me that I could remove the four looped stitches myself which I did before going to see the nurse. You just grip the loop between finger and thumb and gently pull. They easily come out and I experienced no pain.
Today is Tuesday and I will be four weeks post surgery on Thursday and can go out with just a little makeup to cover what is now a tiny amount of bruising.
In Antwerp we stayed at the Ambassador Suites which proved ideal for my needs with a good shower-room and well lit mirrored wall cupboard enabling you to see your face from different angles. If you have any other questions, feel free to ask.

Hi Carol,
Thank you very much for your answer, this is very helpful!
Hi girls
I am now back from a ten days trip in my beloved Britanny, where I had no internet access
Two recent pictures below, I am still bruised around the eyes and the mid forehead, bottom of the nose and upper lip are a bit swollen and numb too... still unable to breathe normally :-(

Wow Mary your face is looking awesome, hope your breathing comes back normally
Thanks! Everything is getting better and better with time... I am now almost able to breathe normally, a little swelling remains inside my nose, and bruising is now and old memory...
The below picture are from this morning, D + 7 weeks...

Dear all
I posted below two pictures taken today, it is now two months post operation.
I think it is not useful to post more pictures now, but I have one question that some of you may answer. People look at me in the streets, and men look at me a way I would qualify as normal, but it appears that many women really stare long at my face...I would like to know what they think of course, there are some possibilities:
1) she's so beautiful
2) she's so ugly
3) she's a transgender
4) she had plastic surgery
5) what a wonderful bow shaped scar!
Any idea ?

Different people will think different things, but my bet is that 5 is causing the stares. That, in combination with not enough hair to cover the scars. Sorry if I'm too honest. If I were you I'd invest in a hair piece or consider hair transplants. I don't think you look like you had plastic surgery and I doubt that many people/women stare because you look transgender. You may as well have been in a car accident some time ago. It's possible though that 5 is something that will make people start to study you, and the next thing, well you know.. I think if you solve 5 then the few 3's will be solved too.
I think it's mostly women who stare because we tend to respond more to things we feel sorry for. Scars are something that do that. Of course anyone who stares at you will never know what a HUGE improvement FFS was for you.
Thank you my dear Sofie, your contribution is very helpful... there is a simple way of verifying the scars call the stares..I just have to wait they vanish out... I agree that women tend more to feel sorry for injuries others carry than men do, so they scare more while men just don't mind...
On my side, consider too that it is not so long that I am living full time, I am still worried about my passability ... :-\...
Hi ladies,

Marie;
I cannot get over the pictures above. You look a completely different person and I reckon the surgery has taken 20 years off you. To me it seems incredibly dramatic and I think especially the first twqo pictures make you look incredibly beautiful (I also love the earrings!)
Judith
Thank you my dear...
You are right, I met many people who know me for years that do not recognize me at first glance, this is incredible, I told more stories about it in another thread..
Judith, I can go soon to the shop and try to fetch a pair of those costless ear rings for you, if you like them... I like them much too, and have the associated ring too...
Also, I believe that the eyebrow shaving combined with the brow shift up made the eyes look much more prominent, like moved ahead off my face, this is I think with the feminine clothes one of the major reasons why people don't recognize me compared to six months ago when I was still living as and looking a man...
Judith, I have the ear rings here, just PM me a postal address to send them to ....
Love
Marie

I agree. Not only a totally different person but SO much younger! (not that you looked 50 anyways).
My choice for FFS is Dr Bart too and I must say his charges are very reasonable. It is even lower than some Thai surgeons for the surgery itself. But price aside I was impressed with Dr bart's forehead work (i'm only doing forehead with him). Marie, your case just reassured me of my choice!
Quick questions:
- was there a catheter used? i recall being advised the forehead surgery only being 2/3 hours.
- do you think it would be possible to 'look normal' with makeup say after 8-10 days? i will be only doing forehead.
- on the same note as 'looking normal' - were there immigration questions at the airport?
Thanks to all in advance. And speedy recovery to you Marie. Go flaunt your new face now - i would if i were you..looking not just feminine but very young and beautiful! x

Hi Marie,
I'd like to say that you look gorgeous and if I hadn't seen your pictures I would have NEVER believed there were any decent surgeons in Europe.
To answer your question I'll tell you why I'd be staring at you (and why I believe people are staring at you) and the answer is non of the 5 options you gave us. You see, you actually look very young (and beautiful) after your FFS, yet your hair is thin and looks older, and if I'd see you in the street (and I'm guessing this is the same with other people too) I'd be thinking: "Ohhhh no what's wrong with that girl her hair? Is she sick? What disease does she have? Can she heal of it?"
But that's just my 2 cent :)
Hi girls
Thanks for all this is very kind of you... I confirm that Dr Bart is excellent as a surgeon, as the above pictures you have seen show.
@blackponyx
I had catheter yes, but I don't know what it has been used for...you better ask Dr Bart for technical details, I believe...
Looking normal after ten days seems difficult to me, and I don't think make up will make much difference since it is much a matter of swelling... you need to be patient..
For the immigration questions, I have no clue since I am living inside the EU (no police control) and came to Antwerp by train...
Now talking about my hair, well it is true that I am not that hairy, and in addition I found that dressing style if pulling them back which make me look maybe more severe, but I like it... I don't think I look sick however since I am not.. ;-) .... to be honest I found no answer to my initial question, but I see now much less people staring at me, so maybe option 5 finally was right ...
Judith, some ear rings are now flying to you ... ;-)
Hugs to all
Marie
Follow-up on the catheter, I also had that question. Was it a urinary catheter? I would really be uncomfortable if that was needed during the surgery...
Yes, it was.... true discomfort, but since you are unable to move... there is probably no other way around... :-\
Yes! multiple questions re urinary catheter haha. I'm no medical personnel but i always thought it was for GA + long surgeries. Logically, they are afraid you pee midway a long surgery but if it was say just a 3 hours surgery i don't know if the catheter still adds value.
My concern is that i am post op - had my srs and have had a couple of UTIs within 6 months post op. Catheters are known to make you prone to UTI (not to mention the discomfort when the catheter is on and during the removal). If possible, I would like to avoid that as much as possible. Maybe i'll drop Dr Bart's team an email to verify and update here. x
My surgery is expected to last around 3 hours, so hopefully if what you're saying is true I won't need one. I am pre-op still but im sure it's equally uncomfortable. If you decide to mail Dr. Bart please let us know his response :)
Girls, to be honest, I didn't even think of that before surgery, and more generally I didn't dig deep into details before going for the operation and for Dr Bart... maybe I was at risk at a given point or maybe not, I feel unable to exactly estimate things when it comes to the medical stuff... I felt only that I was in the need of FFS and that it would be a great step ahead for my transition, this is exactly what happened, I didn't miss the point here...
Same as for Dr Bart himself, I met him back in September 2014, and the interview was very positive and friendly, he listened carefully to my story and I felt him a very human guy... that's it... but again I didn't go with him into technical details that I was of course not able to understand, so I just put my life in his hands with confidence...
That said, I understand that girls may want to know more, then I would say the good person to answer is of course Dr Bart himself...
;)

Dear all, please see what the clinic has replied below:
Dear Ms XXX,
If you stay in our guesthouse you won't need nurse assistance. From the 10th of August we will have a patient coordinator that looks after our patients every day. Even during the weekend she will be in the guesthouse 2 hours a day. This service is included in the price of your room.
Urinary catheter will not be used for such a short surgery.
********
I was not informed of where the 'short surgery' cut off is, but just FYI to all, mine is a FFS for forehead ONLY and in the quotation package to me, it was stated as 2 hours GA surgery.
Hope that helps.
My dear, how long will you stay in Antwerp ?
@marie i'll assume that questions was directed at me ^.^
i am planning to stay 8-10 days. i'm coming from Asia so it's gonna be a long flight. i'm not planning to use this opportunity to travel europe....(oh wait maybe i should....haha)
@blackponyx
Sure the question was for you ... ... I wonder about spending ten days inside the clinic, there is not much to visit around ... not talking of visiting the whole Europe, but Antwerp is a very pleasant city, I personnally did stay at the Enich Anders BB, in the very center of the city, the ladies are very kind persons, no TV, just internet...
http://www.enich-anders.be/
thanks marie! i've bookmarked that B&B a few days back when you posted it! hehe
i'm not too far into my planning yet. i'm not gonna write my life story here but long story short it's frustrating because i am emotionally and financially ready for this surgery but just not possible...as i'm still in college. and that was why i was planning to do it in December (there's a short vacation for about 1.5 months)....
i have to add, if i haven't already, that dr bart's charges are very reasonable. he suggested Type 3 in the pdf file so i guess the cost has factored in the 'worst case scenario'. maybe when i see him and he thinks i don't need a Type 3 i'm not sure, but i'll let him decide. but cost is definitely reasonable. my original choice was Dr chettawut but taking into account i could go to dr bart (with flight and accommodation and a hairline advancement) at the same price, i decided to go with dr bart :)
Hi blackponyx !
Did you ever meet Dr Bart in person ? I guess no, he will restimate the necessary things to perform when you will face him, this is exactly what happened with me, he revised his first estimation based on pictures, and the initial work over forehead was downgraded to a simpler type I... Another thing is that, you might find December cold in Antwerp ... ;D
I am also having a type 1 done with him, are you happy with the results this far now that the swelling has come down?
My biggest fear of a type 1 is that the work could be too conservative.... after which mabye a small part of the forehead bossing keeps showing.
I am, see the pictures, well I like it anyway ... as you know, it is going to evolve slowly within the coming months so that it would be stabilized only by spring 2016 or so... same for the nose job, it is going thinner and thinner, so slowly ...
Since you had type I forehead work done the same as I am getting I was wondering, was an x-ray or something like that made prior to surgery, to chart the sinusus and nerves?
No xray picture before surgery... 8)
hi marie! i haven't met Dr Bart in person. i'm going to let him decide what's best for me.
I am Asian and while there's work to be done, my case is definitely less severe compared to my Western counterparts...at least this was what i was told. so perhaps i only need a simple Type 1, but i don't know, and i'll discuss with him what will help achieve my expectations best.
i wonder if he uses bone cement (or any other materials) to assist with the contouring? I read about surgeons using bone cement as a complement to the contouring of the upper half of the forehead, to improve the profile to achieve a more rounded effect. the round and full forehead is exactly the look i wish to achieve. [see http://facialfeminization.eu/portfolio/layla-click-pictures/ ]
xx
Hi blackponyx!
You should have less work to undergo over your asian face compared to some average european one indeed.. there is some filling in the center area of my forehead, I don't know what it is exactly, it is hard not soft, maybe some kind of cement...
I had emails recently with them, it may take a few days sometimes...
Got the e-mail :D
Sehr gut !! 8)
hi marie,
This is my first intervention on this site, glad to be here and to see you so beautiful ^^
I think i'll make my ffs with dr bart, he proposed a midface lift and canthoplasty like you. I wonder if you see weird folds at your eyes since the intervention? It's sounds natural when you smile, laugh, makes faces?
I'm worried about that and it's difficult to judge from a picture ...
Camille
Hi Camillys
Thanks for your kind comments...
I used to have some weird smile or face shapes during some time after the surgery, and this recover to normal with time...but of course, due to facelift and liplift, my smile has changed, it is much more feminine now...
Hope that helps you
Hugs
Marie
Hi marie,
Glad to read this, thx ^^
About the womens who stared at your face, any differences today ?
Nice day
Camille
Still some ladies are looking at me along the street, I would not say staring at me anymore... and my face is still on its way of evolution, it takes one year or so to get to a stabilized situation, I can see from time to time that something has changed across my face, even if I can't figure out the details, this is subtle change...

Dear Marie
Wow!!! You look great! Very feminine! Thank you very much for sharing your experiance. I'll have my FFS with Dr. Bart van de Ven at the 1st of September 2016. And I'm allready nervous...
Take care my dear... :-*
Danielle
Thank you! Don t get nervous feel confident..I believe you are in good hands, this will go fine and make your transition a strong step ahead...
What was the reason why he used cement to fill in the forehead? do you know? or did he just do it?
I wonder why it's necessary, especially by looking at your before pics.
Thanks for sharing Marie.
Yes I used to have some kind of lightly curvy zone in the middle of my forehead

Marie you look amazing!!! Thank you for sharing your experience! It helps a lot!
I've booked my FFS with Dr. Bart in January 2017 as he seems overbooked lately and no possibility to get FFS earlier.
Thank you my dear... You wil be in good hands, feel confident and relax...
Sisters,
two years later, I am here now...

No dramatic move since last time I posted, some subtle changes maybe, I may not be the best person to assess that...

10000 views!
I remember when you started this. When it came up on the recent posts just now, the first thing I thought was "This thread's been around awhile." You look fantastic. :)
Hugs, Devlyn
