I'll start this by illustrating an event yesterday that gave birth to this idea. The day was clear, warm, and sunny, pretty nice for the first week of March. It was also a day to drive my truck to the place I get my firewood, fairly remote and quiet. Once there I chose to relax a moment before starting work. A creek, not large maybe eight feet or so wide runs through the area, and a handmade bridge designed for driving further back into the forest is there as well. The stream is fast moving and filled with small to large rocks which gives rise to air filled with pleasant sound. I sat on the edge of the bridge putting me only few feet above the water. Relaxation replaced all cares, worries, and set the stage for something I will forever cherish. The beginnings of old memories began to seep in, memories of childhood, a time when the only important thing was the excitement of discovery. Finding things under rocks, building small dams, catching frogs and any other thing that was not quick enough to evade my grasp, and in general the fun of looking for any and all things new.
After being fully immersed in these incredible and thoroughly enjoyable thoughts, I began to sort of come back to reality and asked myself "how long has it been since I've felt that?". The answer came easily, never, not since I was a child, not since I lived a life clouded and 'not' well lived. Was this my choice? Not relevant, the only thing important is that I 'found' my bridge back to well being.
I look forward to going back there again today, as I can see it being another chance to reconnect with myself. Dani
Hi Dani,
Have you ever recovered from the flu and suddenly you're aware of how good it feels just to be well? That wholeness is something that I try to find frequently, just taking breaks from the daily hyperactivity of life.
But, nothing like a babbling brook and a pleasant day to make everything perfect! There are three of us who love hiking, drinking in the beauty of nature. That's a whole nother kind of whole! (My avatar was from a hike last fall).
Dani,
I'm so glad you found a place that allows you to escape the pressures of life for a while. Life is complicated, but not as much when you are a child. Being able to go back there mentally allows you to immerse yourself in that time period without all the negative things of child hood.
We all need to escape life once in a while and give our hearts and minds a break. The sound of a brook is soothing to the soul.
