Title: what to do?
Post by: Kacie Lynne on March 10, 2015, 12:05:19 PM
Ok, i am now looking for a new job and need some advice
i have only been on HRT for a couple weeks but outside of work
i have been going full time everywhere i go,
so my question is should i start a new job as Kacey
or start as a guy then tell them later?
i have not had my name changed yet so i still have a male name on
my license and i have another 6 months before the court will even
think about it due to time in the county

Kacey,
You may not have a choice as far as telling your boss. If you don't have all your credentials legalized, you will still need to have paychecks written in your current name or you won't be able to cash them. Also, your bank account, if under your current name will probably not cash your checks for direct deposit if the check has a different name on it.

There is really no need to out yourself to other employees, just the boss. Then, ask you boss to keep the fact that you are a transgender private and to back you under the name you choose. Sometimes things get out anyway, but I don't see a way around telling the boss if you want to get paid.

It really depends on the company.

At my job my work email has to be my legal name and I cannot change it just yet. So I am closeted at work for now.

Kacey, I wouldn't say a darn thing until after you have the job and are ready for a public name change.

Sharing now will just raise a red flag and may get you filtered out of the hiring process...

Well i went out on a limb today and the job i was checking on
i just came right out and asked them if they would have a problem
hiring a transgender person and they said they have no problem
and told me to come to orientation on thursday as whatever
my chosen gender is and i did explain that i have not legally
changed my name yet so legal papers will still be whats on my
license til after i get it changed.

I am so happy to be able to go to work as the real me and if other
employees find out then i will cross that bridge when i get there,
but i will not change who i am for anyone anymore

Well played, Kacey!
I think you went the correct route.  At least, I think that is what I would have done.
Good for you.  It is like a fresh start, yes?
