Poll
Question:
What is your body shape type? (MTF Only)
Option 1: Inverted Triangle
votes: 19
Option 2: Rectangle
votes: 25
Option 3: Apple
votes: 5
Option 4: Pear
votes: 8
Option 5: Hour Glass
votes: 21
So the question is which female body type do you most closely associate with currently:
Inverted Triangle - wide shouldered
Rectangle - straight up and down
Apple - wide at the waist
Pear - big hips / rear-end
Hour Glass - Nipped in at the waist
Yeah I know there are variations on this but it seems to cover most of the shapes out there. If in doubt just go for the best match.
Apologies if something like this poll has appeared before - I couldn't be bothered to search through the whole list to check as it's 2am.
FWIW I'm an inverted triangle :( .
What, no "Smoking hot for an old broad" selection? >:-)
Hugs, Devlyn
You could have put barrel shaped in there. That's what I would be.

That would be whatever you choose to select!

Lol! Barrel-shaped = Apple
I'm somewhere between hourglass and rectangle. Like...I nip in just a titch at the waist, but not a lot. I have really killer hips though ;) and for someone who is genetically male, I have got a KILLER bum.
I'm technically hourglass due to my shoulders but to me when I look in the mirror I see more of a pear shape when I'm wearing clothes.

Fine, you're nuts, then!
I am said to have notably large ass and thighs, which is consistent with the pear shape. A couple of days ago, this thing (http://www.calculator.net/body-type-calculator.html) said pear too.
So going with the pear. :)
Think I'm officially a 'Lean Column'
Banana,
which is basically straight. (or rectangle on this scale I suppose)
so I'm hopeful that HRT will push me towards hourglass
Pear shape isn't possible for MTF unless for those few who start hormone replacement therapy at 11 or 12, go through normal puberty AND have pear shape genes in family. Even most cis women aren't genetically predispositioned to have pear shape body, which would mean tiny narrow shoulders & ribcage, and broad large pelvis.
Inverted triangle with slightly bigger butt (for a genetic male that is). Can't really loose anything above my abdomen cause it's pretty much skinny with little muscle.
I give up because hour glass, rectangle, and inverted triangle all describe my body depending on how you look at it. Much of it is due the fact that I don't have much fat on my body and people are always telling me not to lose any more weight. At one time i was 5'14" and 140 pounds. Talk about a sack of skin and bones!!!!

Or has a disproportionately wide lower body half.
I was not able to find a formal definition of the shape; also notably the linked page doesn't consider shoulders width so there is space for confusion. Do you happen to have one at hand?
I always have plenty confusion all around not just at hands :)

I was always jealous of her body... pear shape often comes with short legs, and she has the most amazing legs along with perfect pear shaped body...
Yeah, on the pic the body shape looks like a pear + the shoulders. Not envious of it though. :)
I was hoping for some sci source on the topic that would settle some criteria. Without that, there is space for stretches and interpretations.
Also, I believe transwomen should be able to have those limits adapted to their own boundaries when describing their body shapes.
I didn't think there are scientists who spend their time setteling criteria for womens body shapes. I guess you never know.. although I personally believe good old common sense might be good enough for most people to distinguish between different body shapes.

Lovely :)
I just had liposuction & a tummy tuck 3 weeks ago, what curves I have now, so pretty, thin flat stomach, thin waist & nice hips. A woman's body for sure. That is so nice. I do not want to remotely resemble a "trans woman" just a nice woman. It was worth the $ & pain. GF's you should consider it if your body is wrong. Luckly my body is balanced, 5 '9", small feet, small hands. I could use some larger hips but I'll wait for that. Guess I'm lucky.

Well I guess I'm a unicorn then lolol cause I do have a pelvis like my mom and I started hrt at 21 but idk If I'm intersexed since I never really masculinzed fully.
Hello unicorn! I don't know what your intersex condition would be... What I know is that nobody who had been through testosterone driven puberty shouldn't have pear shaped body (at least in terms of what would most people consider pear shape body...), because some of the things testosterone causes would be rib-cage growth and broadening of the shoulders. That alone practically exclude chances to have considerably narrower shoulders than hips, unless if someone would go for hip implants or any other surgical intervention.
Hey there! :D yep exactly I agree but my rib cage is also pretty small, its 29 inches so yeah I have no idea honestly. Either I got super lucky with my genetics or there's something else going on.
From inverted triangle to pear
...Actually heading towards curvy pear at this point :o
Start of HRT
35-29-34 // 5'9" @ 130lbs // shoulder 43 // thigh 21 // WHR 0.85
Current (2.5yrs HRT + fat transfer)
39-29-41.5 // 5'7" @ 160lbs // shoulder 40 // thigh 24.5 // WHR 0.70
Measurements don't do justice, though. My hips don't look like that of a cis "pear".
Hmmm, let me try this in your format:
Start of HRT (approximately)
37-30-36.5 // 6'1" @ 144lbs // shoulder 43 // thigh (not measured) // WHR 0.82
Current (21 months HRT)
39-30-37 // 6'1" @ 150lbs // shoulder 42 // thigh 21 // WHR 0.81
(bust has fluctuated as high as 40 before but is currently right at 39)
I've always considered my body to be a rectangle shape and it probably always will be. As you can see from the numbers I've always been quite slim for my height and didn't have much fat available to re-locate or muscle to lose. The only really obvious change has been the development of 34B breasts starting from ribs-flat. Certainly everything headed in the right direction but I get the clear impression I've probably nearly exhausted the limits of change possible for me already.
I've seen enough examples of true inverted-triangle bodies to know I'm not one, but I still find it maddening trying to get clothes that fit and flatter my proportions. I have really long arms and it's a toss-up between that or shoulders screwing up the fit of a shirt or jacket I'm trying on. Persistence has paid off though because I now have quite an extensive wardrobe. (My mom was just complaining I used up all our clothes hangers!)
As an Aussie, I'm going to say surfboard.. Where that fits in, I have no idea.. But it's all flat and straight up and down..

I'd expect study of human body proportions to be an interdisciplinary thing. That is, observed by more than one branch. Like one of these (http://etd.auburn.edu/bitstream/handle/10415/2612/Phillip_Sidberry_Thesis_Corrected.pdf?sequence=4). Common sense doesn't necessarily make sense contracted with categorical statements; that is a way to get discussions stuck.
Let's just say if I wear a white dress and get distracted I end up with somebody's kids' drawings stuck on me.
I've got massive shoulders and no hips or butt :(
Is round a shape?
That sounds like an apple shape, Sister Denmark :)

eep! You found me out! <3
Hour glass
Pear with 43" hips. And yeah, I was subjected to testosterone and went through puberty, but still had feminine hips. *Shrugs.* It happens, it's possible. As for my shoulders, they're not exceptionally wide for my height and build, and my ribs aren't as big as they could be. I did have one woman point out they were 'a bit large' though when she was fitting me for a corset.. :embarrassed:
Totes rectangle up in here. Used to be a stick, now a stick that looks like she swallowed a basketball.

Up there in the topic I didn't feel like flashing numbers to 'prove' my point. :-) I'm not even proud of my figure. But its measurements are classified as pear shape. It is wide hip and a small rib cage.
34-27-38 hehe.
I decided to measure myself today, and I am 38-27-39. This gives me a WHR of 0.69 which is near the ideal of 0.70. I'll take it I guess.
Almost 8 months on HRT, with a short pause for surgery and now that I've restarted things are growing with a vengeance. :)
