Title: Considering FFS right after starting HRT?
Post by: Sergmtf on March 16, 2015, 06:31:20 AM
Hi girls. I have a question for you guys. I want to get FFS 6 months after I start on HRT (MTF). I wish to do this because I don't want to go through a lot of the bullying that many transgender women go through. I want to start HRT by mid 21, and get my FFS by my 22nd birthday. What do you girls think? Yes or no? Does estrogen feminize the face? Will I look more like a girl when on estrogen?

Thanks :)

In general the advice is to wait so facial changes can occur. That said if you have a very heavy boned face it may be an idea. Probably an idea to post some pics so you can get feedback

Estrogen has a subtle but powerful effect on the face. Wait at least a year on hormones before you jump into FFS

In my opinion make it as fast as possible. Do not wait. HRT will not change your bones in any way. I made pure boneworks three months after starting ffs and gone fulltime since the surgery. Now I bevome more beautiful everyday. I am 45 years old and the avatar pic is current and my passing is perfect (100%).

I did not got any implants. I do not like the artficial look which they could create.

I met a lot of sisters who had their ffs many years after starting HRT because they their still misgendered occasionally. Also you look more malish when you become older. But healing is better as long as you are young.

So I would advise not to wait.

Most of the surgeons suggest you wait a year or 2 after starting hormones to allow them to do their thing before the surgeon starts making changes. Why do they suggest this? It prevents revisions being needed later when your face no longer conforms to it's surgically created shape.

Oh.. And FFS isn't going to be any protection from bullying..

Like most of the other girls have said on this thread, I'd wait. I saw most of my face changes around month 9. On occasion I still notice little differences. I'd said wait a year or two, also. Yes, E will usually change the look of your face.

It sounded like your biggest concern was with bullying. For me, I dressed andro until I passed and I was careful not to push it. Also!! Makeup!! If you know how to contour well, you'll do wonderfully. (: I'm sure other girls on this forum can offer other ideas for combatting bullying and passing.

A lot of other things also come into play... for example, if you maybe have a great starting point, and 2 months after FFS you can't pass as a male anymore... are there any consequences to that? Any situations where you might still need to present as male? Or maybe you're not entirely ready for a "full time" yet at that point? Facial hair issues... how fun must it be to live "full time" and then every month hide for a week in the apartment because of before&after laser treatment hair situation... This is just in case, if you have a great starting point and get a fantastic result. My point is, you need to know what to expect, and you need to be ready for it. FFS is in many cases a life changing situation, and you need to be ready for this change. When is that, is completely up to you. Hormones soften the face a little, most noticable changes happen in the lower face, like square chins become more rounder, cheeks become more fuller (enough fat tissue is requirement though), but not much else will change. Hormones help, but it's not primarily hormone therapy which make people start to become more passable... figuring out the right haircut (or wig), greatly improved make-up skills and shaping of the eyebrows, cleared facial hair, more developed and more passable voice (and mannerisms), learning about body-shape and age correct and wrong fashion choices, and on, and on... Hormones are only a little precious help, which not only makes you feel better, more yourself and more confident, but also slightly soften the face. Sadly it's not a miracle pill, and masculine face doesn't become feminine because of hormones. FFS can do that magic for some, and again for some it is (sadly) limited how much FFS can really do. If you do research, learn a LOT about FFS, and know what you can realistically expect, there is no point of waiting one year or two years because of hormones. But my opinion is, it is smart to wait, and not to rush into anything... and do it when you know you are ready, and you feel it's the right time. (and definitely finish the laser/electrolysis before FFS ...)

In my experience, "before" is not such an issue with laser. It's after. You shave for laser. Once they zap the hairs, you have to wait for it to shed. You can try to shave but in my experience I cannot get a close shave for a week. It's kinda bad but I present as a guy at work anyway for now so it's manageable.

Electrolysis on the other hand, OMG. Stubble for a few days before, then swelling for a day or two after. Pure torture. It tends to be effective though and I think more permanent than laser...

The best advice I can give is wait, you honestly don't realize what you will look like.

I went from thinking "OMG, I'll need this and that and this and it's going to be $55.000 and what about complications like partial facial paralyses" and now I'm actually pretty happy with my looks.

Sure there are some things I might want to change just like any woman but even without any FFS or makeup I went from total guy to passing without makeup in slacks in about 6 months of laser and HRT and I'm 35 :P

Give it at least half a year or a year before doing any work, I know throwing money at it is tempting but the two biggest things to get used to during a transition are:

Finally look at women who are considered beautiful and women that are very feminine, these are not really the same thing so even though you might get more feminine features from surgery you might up looking more homely for the lack of a better word.

HRT but more so beard removal had a powerful feminizing effect on me... It took a year and 6 laser treatments and at least 140 hours of electrolysis to get to the point I can just go for maintenance clearings with electrolysis every week or two... Im not saying you have to finish all of that first but I think its a VERY good idea... After 4-5 months on HRT and a few laser treatments my face became much softer... By 11 months on HRT and all that hair removal I never had a problem getting clocked and yes there was a big change to my appearance...

I had full FFS about 3 weeks ago a year into transition, many said I didnt need it but my cro magnon brow and square chin and jaw would never change enough for me no matter how long on HRT... Also at 46 after years of never taking care of my face a face and neck lift had a lot of appeal... Im glad its done its some hard surgery to recover from, worse than I ever could have imagined despite doing a lot of research on it...

6 months of HRT to me would be the minimum before FFS.... What about learning voice and manners, how to dress appropriately, getting your hair right, blending in, building confidence in your self as a woman ect??? FFS and HRT alone will help a lot but it wont just make you "pass" on its own.... Unless your very lucky and already very androgynous and feminine there is a learning curve to this... That said by 6 months in on HRT and RLE I had already made a remarkable transformation and "passing" was pretty easy for me  ;) FFS was just icing on the cake for me ;D

I agree with the suggestion to post pics in the FFS forum and I think you should consult with a few FFS surgeons and get their opinion on what you might want done... It took me about 6 months just to consult with surgeons, research and decide what I wanted to have done ;)

2 days "before" where I had to let my hair grow for 2 or 3 days prior. With longer time on HRT and more laser sessions, hair growth wasn't that fast like before. Afte laser session most of the burned hair doesn't get loose until 4-5 days after, when you can take tweezers and pick all dead hair out. You don't need to wait two-three weeks before it sheds on its own. You literally pick a hair, and if it's loose you take it out painlessly, if it's attached, than obviously you don't take it out. So thats 2 days before and 4-5 days after, when I usually didn't go out. Waiting for it to shed would mean I wouldn't go out of the house for good two weeks.

I shave before a laser session and the morning after without any issues. My beard hairs are currently reduced by 80%. So lasering while living stealth full time is not a problem.
