Have you ever had your facebook taken over by your friend before and put a "I'm gay" on your page as a joke?
Well that's what happened to me, only my parent didn't take it as a joke, and in fact decided to tell me they knew and it was okay. Which was a huge shock (Thanks Aya), we spent the evening talking about how I'm pansexual and what that means and I briefly touched on the subject of possibly being trans. I didn't want to overload them all at once so I only said I was questioning rather than that I am indeed trans.
From there the ball started rolling.
My classmates at University already know about me being trans (since new year), my teachers have been introduced to it also - one of my teachers came to me and said that it is possible for her to change my official university details to reflect my preferred gender and has started working on that for me.
My doctor has sent out a referral for me to go talk to a gender therapist - which my parents know about, although they still think I am only questioning.
Now all I need to do is slowly introduce them to the idea and speak to the gender therapist about things and how to go about going on T.
I knew this was going to be a good year, and here we are!
It's good when things work out like that. It sounds like you've got plenty of support around you which ever path you go down.
It's great that your folks are taking it so well. I had the accidental FB take over once and it... Less than pleasant. I'm personally flabbergasted as to why friends would do that, but I guess I'm just old.
I hope things keep going smoothly for you.
Congrats on things going so well. Fantastic that you didn't have to be the one to get the conversation started with your parents.
However, not so cool about your friend!
I'd certainly have one less friend if someone pulled that crap on me, but I'm very relieved for you that it's worked out as well as it has! (Come sit by me, Ayden--we can be old together :D )
Nah, don't worry about the friend deal. We do stuff like that to each other all the time so its not a big deal for us xD Honestly I'm surprised my parents took it seriously considering the things we've pulled on each other before, this was pretty lame by comparison. We both know its all in good fun and where the line is drawn so we don't go too far with anything.
I came out as gay long before i did trans ans this is something like how it went.
me *jokingly*: Grandma do you think gay guys would like hallmark movies?
Gma: why would you ask something like that, any one can like hallmark movies, gays or lesbians, it doesnt even matter, you could be gay watching this movie.
Me: well i am soooooo *slowly walks away*
and that was that, been completely accepted on that part ever since.
Congrats to you:)
