Title: I feel like my dose is low
Post by: rileyoli23 on March 30, 2015, 08:41:45 PM
Hey guys. My name is Riley, I'm a 15 year old trans guy.
I'm a little over two weeks on T. I take my shot every other week. Compared to other guys I feel this is low.

*mod edit, no dosages please.

Riley, welcome to Susan's. This is a great place to ask questions and just generally share things.

Without going into specifics, since it's against site policy for people to discuss specific dosages. I'll just say that it's pretty standard for a doctor to start you on a low dose, to give your body time to adjust and see how you respond. I wouldn't worry, if I were you.

Hey Riley. We're not allowed to discus specific doses here. However... Two things:
The ml amount is meaningless without also knowing the concentration.
And... Often one is prescribed a lower starting dose, then ramped up to a therapeutic dose, depending and how your body handles the T.
Your doctor should explain this to you, as well as let you know when next to get your blood drawn to check your levels.

Starting low is normal. I was on a low dose (about 1/2 of 'normal') for 6 months before my doctor let me go to a full dose. Plus 'normal' varies from person to person.

No need to compare your dose to other guys...Testosterone does its work in each individual at differing levels.  Some people require more to maintain a healthy range, and some people need less.  Your body also creates some on its own.  It is all about keeping yourself in a healthy range in order to experience the desired changes, physical and emotional.  The actual dose that does that for you, as an individual, is the only one that matters. Be sure your doctor is assessing your levels on a regular basis.   I know patience is tough, but you will get there!

I was at half the normal dose for a month when I first started. I think this is how it is usually done. The best thing to do if you're having doubts about the effectiveness of your medication is to speak to your doctor about your concerns. They're the only ones who can help you in that regard.

Are you on depo testosterone? When I started, I was on an every two week schedule as well. I was on that for years. A lot depends on what form you are using and your bloodwork.

Why aren't we allowed to discuss dosage?
Because Susan doesn't like it and Susan owns the site.

Why aren't we allowed to discuss dosage?
To discourage self-medicating

Why aren't we allowed to discuss dosage?

Everyone's body reacts differently to hormones. Part of it is individual and part of it is age. What may produce safe, stable blood levels in one person might be way to high or too low in another. We aren't M.D.s and even if we were, we wouldn't have the equipment or information for an individual on line. Not discussing dosages is just safer for everyone on the forum.

Low dose in the beginning is very common thing. T is pretty strong stuff so it's better to be safe than sorry. Heck, I started with gel and I was on half dose for two weeks.

This.
Also, I remember coming onto a forum (possibly even Susan's) when I was sixteen and saying the same thing. I had some anxiety over the very low amount they prescribed me. I assure you it's normal, give it time to see how you adjust to the T and go from there. I think I had been doing injections every 2 weeks during that time too, and it was about a month or so till they adjusted it.

Riley, welcome to Susan's. Every other week is a pretty stand frequency when starting HRT, when using injections. They will tailor that based on how your body is responding and your levels. If have concerns related to the dose or frequency I recommend taking them up with your doctor. Good luck and Hugs
