Title: So.. my leg is achy and I think I'm just being irrational.
Post by: Damara on April 04, 2015, 02:43:37 AM
So I've been on a LOW dose of estrogen for three days and actually my leg started being achy the first day I took it... my calves/shin areas are prone to getting sore anyway.. haha! But I'm a bit of a "hypochondriac" literally, and have OCD and can worry to the point of panic about almost anything.. I know it's a "call your doctor" thing or something, but also, I just wanted some reassurance that it IS very unlikely to be anything scary being so soon after starting and having such low doses.. anyway.. this is my least fav part about HRT lol! My own anxiety about DVT and such. lol!

It is unlikely to be anything. Talk to your doctor ASAP anyway.

I'll contact her tomorrow! She's three hours away, I'm guessing if anything was wrong she could recommend me go to the local ER which I'd not even be happy about.. but still..

Thanks, Grace! ^_^

I remember feeling achy for about a week when I started low dose.
It's due to the change in hormone levels, but best check.

OMG me too I'm constantly thinking about that, every time I get some pain anywhere, like one time i hit something with my feet and I had some pain later and I was so nervous I couldn't stop thinking about it

If it was really a DVT, you wouldn't be posting about it here, you'd already have dragged your sorry backside to an ER already. A DVT doesn't just ache, it hurts.. Along with the swelling and possible discolouration.

My grandmother had several DVT clots and it was awful looking and she was in agony.. D:

So I've been on a LOW dose of estrogen for three days and actually my leg started being achy the first day I took it.

I had the same problem. It turned out to be my skin drying out and a daily dose of moisturiser sorted it out. Estrogen causes the skin to produce less sebum oils so you have to replace it.

My skin dried out so much it was tight over the shinbone and I really felt like the bone was going to break through the skin. It was actually quite painful. Nowadays, as well as the moisturiser, I take cod liver oil capsules to help my skin. It seems to help as I now only moisturise my legs once a week instead of every day.

Then you should damn well know better to panic about it... 3 days on hormones is not going to have caused a DVT.

What of the risk factors? Age? Smoker?

Seriously, while it can be an issue, it's rare in those who are being monitored by a doctor.

::)

For paranoia I recommend a good psychiatrist and the right meds.

But, seriously, needlessly posting things like this can freak out people who don't know any better. Just think about that for a moment - your post could be the reason someone stops or needlessly delays hormones.

I'm also a worry wort. I thought I was going into hyperalkalemia my first week on Spiro , but it was my anxiety. The mind can do crazy things to the body. I find that deep breathing and meditation do help though.

Drink more water and eat more salt.

(correction), if you are on spironolactone.

I don't think the OP said she was taking Spiro.

I am on Spiro! :) Sorry for not mentioning that! I've tried to increase my salt and water intake a bit, but may do a bit more.. :D
