Title: Maryland Medicaid GCS
Post by: LostAtFree on April 11, 2015, 11:35:04 AM
I am working hard trying to have Gender Confirmation Surgery covered by my insurance. Otherwise I may be waiting a few years and I do not know how much longer I can hang on living with my dyshoria and the difficulties I encounter in my everyday life. While many merely request full payment and to try yourself for reimbursement, most professionals who perform this procedure do not want to deal with medicaid if any insurance at all. The reason being is often medicaid requires a provider to be contracted with them. I have, however, after contacting nearly every surgeon in the United States who does this operation through email found one who would be willing to enter a one time agreement with Maryland Medicaid if they in fact would cover it. With all of my paperwork, letters and insurance information ready to submit for a consultation I need to contact the insurance myself to find out if this is even a possibility. I want to be  certain I speak with someone both knowledgeable and supportive of the recent policy changes regarding what my plan would allow as far as transgender care. Unsure of how to address speaking over the phone with a stranger about this any research or knowledge I have would be helpful so that I may be assertive to gaurantee the best treatment if given any trouble or need to find any loopholes. I seek to find detailed specific information on Maryland Medicaids terms on what I feel is medically necessary transgender care, recommended contact representatives who may handle similar cases and other suggested options on where to seek medical attention who may work with Maryland Medicaid's plan.

I did find one surgeon who would take it if authorized. However, This is where I was six months ago. Recently, my life took a sudden unexpected change in a different direction. Currently I am trying to figure out what I'm going to do to stay on hormones on hormones and get back visiting my specialized therapist I spent 14 months with. Recently I did have to call my my insurance to change the PCP listed on my card. While I was at it, I did ask and found what the policy did briefly state. Also, by speaking with someone at one of the popular Maryland treatment center where I was informed that there are different carriers for Medicaid in which a provider may be contracted with. To conclude, even though I've been set back, the events in my life have become a positive experience in personal growth.
