I hope this isn't too weird , but I noticed that I smell different between my legs, meaning my private area. Is this what girls smell like or is this just a different smell than normal because of hormones?
I believe that is the hormones switching your pheromones. It has been one of my favorite unexpected parts of hrt. I hated smelling like a man.

I've noticed different smell everywhere that I sweat, which began a couple weeks after starting hormones.
Last week I accidentally smelled a pair of underwear I had worked out in the day before (don't ask how this happened, please, but it was inadvertent, really) and was completely shocked because it exactly matched one of the scents I associate with cis girl private areas. My jaw just about dropped off my face and I double-checked that they weren't actually my wife's.
So at least some of the smells are "authentic."
I absolutely hate the way I smell (not on HRT yet) and the fact that I can't actually smell my own body odour makes it even worse because everyone else (but me) CAN smell it!! Most of the time I either hear someone say loudly "someone smells/stinks/needs a bath around here!!" and other times I hear people say they can smell something "burning". :(
Did I mention that I hate the way I smell?! Oh, yes, I did. :(
Chris
Scent change was one of the first effects of HRT I noticed.
That's good, so it's actually a girl scent.
the first signs of HRT I noticed were breast tenderness and hair reduction. body odors only changed later on
The scent for me in the genital area is definitely different (in a good way). One of the things that has absolutely thrilled me is that I no longer have any scent coming from my armpit area, even after working out. I've even dared others to smell my armpits and they too are surprised that there is really no smell.
I dont notice the scent change, but the animals do. My cat and my parents dogs reacted to me like a person they had never met for a few days.
When I stated HRT a few months ago I did notice i lost the smell from my underarms and the smell in my crotch are turned into a sweet smelling scent which went on for a few weeks. Now scent is gone from both areas. I don't know if they are really gone or if it because i just cannot detect the odors.

Same her re: armpits. I was talking to some girl friends about this, and they were surprised because they said they do smell at the end of the day or after working out. I have to confess not to having paid close attention to other girls' BO in the past, so I don't know what to make of that. It might be that, by comparison to my old male stank, this is undetectable. I don't think so, though. So I was wondering if maybe my hormones are in an in-between zone right now, where the male stank is gone but whatever leads to the female version of that hasn't kicked in yet.
Dunno, just speculating. I don't mind this, it's amazing to me that antiperspirant is now optional...
I can usually just hang my clothes back up at the end of the day because I have no body odor now. I have very little to wash on wash day and because of that my clothes last longer.
With that said - there are areas of my body that can now develop distinctly female smells in certain situations.
Ahh, the "new girl" smell. Fortunately it does not seem to wear off.
My wife noticed that right away and does not miss the old funk one bit.
I do my best to NOT sweat. Since I started in November this is pretty easy. However we're coming up on summer. Its a lot harder. I do believe my girl area has changed in scent though.
My body scent has changed. One night I was in bed and my face was resting on my arm. I smelled a the scent of an ex of mine from 20 years ago coming off my skin. It was really weird.
The hormones do change your smell. I told an anecdotal story related to this in reply to Stephanie regarding the stare of children.
Yes an expected and very welcome change for our olfactory sense, presentation and personal lives.
Yes Jill that "new girl" smell wears well! :D LOL

Same here... I never was one of those intense smelling people before hrt but what I did have has lessened as well. When I work out even in the 88+ degree heat and smell my pits they only have a faint sweet smell.
Speaking of smells... I am sooo sensitive to the smell of men's natural scent now!! I love it when I catch the scent of a strong, healthy, and clean guy jogging shirtless in the park... oh yes!
Anyone else notice that they perceive scents differently too or other such things?

I've noticed that and wondered if it will stay. I remember before puberty that I had no significant scent and later noticed with children I was around that they didn't either. This changed a few years into puberty. Perhaps it will with us as well. I've noticed a unique scent when I take shirts off lately, It smells wonderful! But, then I'm a lesbian. Perhaps we don't smell, later we do, then we get used to it and filter it out unless it's particularly strong. Time will tell, or one of our more advanced sisters will.
Yah. The smell thing is weird huh! I always thought I smelled wrong and hate T stinkyness. I love my smell now. I do smell different, sweat less, and also my sense of smell is different - stronger. I can often catch odors that others can't. Useful in restaurants. Not so useful when I can smell the faint whiff of cat pee somewhere and can't localise it! Blessing and a curse lol!
I went hiking yesterday and where I go people let their dogs run free off a leash. It seemed like every single dog I came across (at least 5) wanted to sniff my crotch whereas before HRT they wouldn't come near me. I also noticed that I dont smell musky anymore.
Been on E, P, and S for 15 days.
Lol, dogs are so classy!
I quite like the different smell I have now :)
Agree with smell comments etc...
But my perspiration rate still has not changed, but it's now NOT a "sweaty" odour - Tick
L Katy :-*
Well, there's less sweat generally.
But I think I really need to get back to serious long running.......the smell after boy running a marathon was absolutely rank! If that has changed...........then anything's possible!
My wife says I "smell like a girl" now... :D
Haha @ Nikki's post! Dogs are sooo funny sometimes and yes "classy" indeed like the other person said. It is interesting how animals react differently to you before and after HRT. My cats were really loving before but are even more so now... but that's probably because I have calmed down a bit too.
It is nice smelling like a girl though, I love having that sweeter smell instead of my manly onion and garlic smell I had with all the T and DHT.
The first change I noticed was that my pee smells different. I've shared a bathroom with my wife for 15 years, so I was well aware of the different smell...and mine smells like hers now. Gross? Yes. Awesome? Yes!!! :)
Yeah, dogs, cat's and other animals see with their noses, us included. It is interesting. I like it too. makes me feel good! Cool huh! :D
Yep, they do. When my smell flipped the cat came up and sniffed me like she didn't recognize my smell anymore.

My dog is just as protective of me today as she's been for the past 2 years. Granted I'm only 5 months in and who knows when and how quickly things change.
I was actually a little bit frightened after getting voice surgery that our dog's wouldn't recognise me. Turns out they did. And as i was unable to talk in anything more than a whisper for months, now they respond to whispering. I don't need to scream and wail like a banshee anymore! Aces!
I was really, really shocked at how fast my scent changed, when i woke up the day after starting E I went into the kitchen & made a coffee then sat infront of the TV, after an hour it occured to me that I hadn't rushed to the bathroom upon waking up to wash off that nasty male funkyness, I nervously stuck my nose into my armpit & realised that my scent had changed & for the first time in god knows how long I wasn't offended by my scent.
To balance out this fast change my breast are being slow in their development, 18 months on HRT and i'm barely an a cup but who cares? They may be small but they're mine
I noticed the scent change right away when it happened. Now it's so normal that I don't notice it as much. I like my new scent.

I was in a similar state after that amount of time. I used to call them my 'tit's in the mist' and i didn't care about having big boobs. Like meh. 13 years later 18DD - or 20D and still growing. Hello! That was suprising! In fact I am going to get my endo to give me a shot of progesterone to stop them growing.
During some fun yesterday, I confirmed that yes it really does smell like a girl even being pre-op. That was the last thing I expected to happen when I first started hormones. I thought I'd be lucky if it ever happened post-op.
I read this thread back when I first joined the forums, and now I finally have something to contribute. :P
After being on a very low dose of E and Spiro for about 2 weeks now, I've noticed that I just don't "stink" anymore, lol. I know this is gross, but for some reason I sniffed my underwear after wearing them for like 24-hours the other day and I was like, "these smell clean still, how odd." I even convinced my wife to sniff them and she agreed, no stink! Even after working outside for an hour today and definitely sweating, I had to confirm again. Nope, even sweaty panties don't stink either and smell fresh from the wash almost, lol.
No discernible "new girl" smell yet, but one small step at a time I guess. I'll take it!
7 months in and my dog is still protective of me.
Bizarre as it may be, we smell better than CIS women! I still don't know why that's the case. But I'll go with it!
Oh the new girl smell down below, it does come. Just wait for it! :( or :)
I think we go through an early period of smelling like pre-teens.
This is a necro bump, but I love this thread, so I had to when I discovered something new about myself!
2 months in and the "new girl" smell has finally shown up! So excited! :D
You know, before reading this thread, I never really noticed the change, but going back and reflecting has to totally made me realize this.
I never really sweat a lot to begin with, I've always gotten like maybe a glow? I'd have to try super hard to sweat actual drops of water. But that said, I did used to smell pretty bad after gym and stuff and now it really doesn't have much of a scent compared to before, really. HRT does a lot of cool stuff like that :)
Hell yeah! It used to be if I was out in the Texas sun my shirt would smell kind of like a cross between a skunk and piss. Now it doesn't. Not only that but my sweat...well...tastes different and I don't sweat nearly as much. It's really really nice.
Its funny but those same old smells I used to have remain a bit of a turn on for me when they come from another person. Like other parts of me they are fine on a man but not attached to me.
Squee!!! So I've had some pretty bad dysphoria and depression over the last week. Partially alleviated thanks to some hardcore girl time on Saturday, but! On Sunday it came back again and I cried. I didn't want to get up and go to work as a boy again today. So, I took another step today and wore a girl's polo shirt, but that's not why I'm posting in this thread (even though not a single scrap of clothing I'm wearing today (except my socks) is male, yay!).
I'm posting in this thread because I've learned that smell does a lot to alleviate my dysphoria apparently! I found some nice hand lotion that helps, and this morning I just laid under the covers and pulled the blanket over my head for about 10 mintues and breathed in the awesome new smell of ME! I <3 my new smell, so relaxing and affirming.
I was curious if this was just me, but too shy to ask ^-^
I'd noticed that my smell had changed but strangely I think my pets did too. For a few months they'd treated me like a stranger. My piggies wouldn't lay on my lap like they had previously and my duck who would not leave my side and follow me everywhere I go, avoided me like he did to everyone else. They're used to me now. When I had to go off my hormones for surgery, the smell was one of the first things to disappear. That was one of the worst parts of my surgeries and made me really depressed.
OK here goes, TMI.
So I don't stink, period. I don't even put deodorant on any more and could go without for days! I noticed the development right after starting on HRT. My CIS friends say they stink often and are just as baffled as me. So whats the cause of this very pleasant benefit? I will add my vaginal area needs inconsistent attention to control odor. Some day's you just have that not so fresh feeling. TMI for sure!
Thank you,
Anne
Like you, Anne, I still use deodorant but really have no need to. I'm thinking about switching to an antiperspirant instead, though. My job really overheats me! On an associated note, my sense of smell seems almost superhuman now. I swear I could smell cat food at work through the cans! (No, none were open.)

Yeah, my sense of smell is through the roof!
