So I've been on Spiro and Estrogen for 15 days now and one thing I've noticed is an increase in acne. I was always acne prone, but have had pretty clear skin over the last year or two. Now I have a few patches around my mouth and on my forehead. It isn't substantial, but it's definitely an increase, especially of my forehead. I haven't had anything on my forehead for a long time, yet, now I have a few. I was under the impression that Spiro and Estrogen would keep my skin clear. Did anyone else experience an increase in acne after starting Sprio and E. I'm hoping my body is just adjusting and it clears up in the next couple months. It's aggravating... anyway, thanks everyone.
I once read that a healthy nutrition might help... they explained it with toxins being flushed out...
You might think about drinking enough water... cutting on carbonated and high sugar drinks...
and in general eating healthy...
hugs
Honestly, I haven't touched anything but water in about a month and I've been drinking 3 liters a day. The only thing I've been eating is fruits, vegetables, nuts, fish, and chicken. I'm guessing my hormones are just saying wtf and trying to adjust, at least I hope so. My skin was one of the positives going into this.
it may be anecdotal, but from what i've read it seems people who have really clear skin going into HRT, sometimes have breakouts, whereas others who have oily acne to begin with see an improvement.
its actually common that dermatologists prescribe spiro for acne in women. But its hard to explain why you are experiencing breakouts, other than just a change in hormones within your body. Its probably not due to an increase in Sebum from Testosterone.
If in your preparation for hrt, you began to eat better, drink more water etc., it could possibly be that your body is going into a very slight elimination process. This is when the body is getting the green light to improve itself, and starts to detoxify.
The improvement of skin does in fact take place on hormone therapy, but (and I'm speaking in general terms here) 15 days seems fairly fast.
For me personally, I have severe forms of all three variations of Rosacea, one of which mimics acne (which makes it impervious to most acne medications). I am not sure why and even my dermatologist does not know, the hrt regimen completely eliminated all three of these at about the 3 or 4 month mark. Hope things clear naturally soon. Dani
I really don't know, I guess the laser could be irritating my skin a bit too, and I haven't been washing my face as often as I normally do to avoid skin drying to be honest. That's probably it. I've probably been over moisturizing as well.
Wouldn't be surprised it's the laser...
It's probably just the body's response to the hormone change. I experienced that as well in the first two weeks.
Fermale HRT should greatly reduce acne. Especially for those outside of the U.S. who take Androcur and Estrace, acne should be pretty much eliminated as cyproterone acetate (Androcur) and ethinyl estradiol (a synthetic version of estradiol) are the main ingredients of Diane-35, which is a female-specific version of Accutane.
Also, for me personally, IPL laser greatly helped my acne through the destruction of the hair follicles that generally aid in the production of acne.
I had that happen to me too when I started HRT. I was 41 at the time and dealing with acne all over again!
Luckily it did clear up quickly, mine was never really bad but noticeable... If I remember right it cleared up after about a month.
It probably does have something to do with the body readjusting to different hormones.
Lasers have caused me to break out. But I also have a shot diet and what not so there's that too. But even so my face has cleared up good since hrt. Congrats on starting btw!
In my experience, laser has given me a lot of acne problems in certain areas. It seems like the laser zapped a hair mostly but not all the way and that this results in an in-grown hair. I've been through 6 laser sessions pre-HRT and I started HRT 15 days ago. I have my first laser on HRT tommarow. One thing that seems to make a difference is how much power they use on the laser, which I always tell the tech to go high power. My skin finally just cleared up from the last laser session and I have my next one tommarow.

How old are you?? You could still have a significant amount of HGH circulating your body still. That mixed with a second puberty as a result of the new hormone surge you are undergoing can result in that awkward teen like acne. Cisfemales and Cismales both can get acne issues from estrogen and testosterone respectively.
All of my acne pretty much disappeared, however I do believe all my acne was hormonal and once the T was out of my system bye bye went the acne. I was never tested for it however the majority of my family on my mothers side had been tested for this issue and treated for it including my mother and sister
HRT cleared up my face at about 6 weeks.

I just turned 27, but I was sort of a late bloomer in terms of puberty. I've been 6'0" since about 15, but I didn't really fill out until my early 20's and I didn't have much facial hair or body hair until just a couple years ago. I really don't have any back hair, but a couple hairs have popped up on my shoulders over the last year or so. I sometimes feel like I'm still going through puberty. I look much younger than I am. I'm hoping that I still have a good amount of HGH floating around. I'm sure it will clear up. It's just annoying. My skin was pretty flawless and now I have a few spots. Like I said, it's not bad, but it's enough to bother me.
Oh, and thanks Amber...

Females and males get acne due to rising testosterone levels, not estrogen as the latter reduces sebaceous gland activity (sebum/oil production) whereas the former increases it.
Hmmmm, ok, thanks KayXo for the very much needed correction. I just thought that both could have contributed to it but it may be more a diet thing or something.
So you just turned 27 TheQuestion. I'll be 27 on the third of next month, we are basically the same age. Same thing here I also did not have back hair really or horrible stomach hair though they were starting to come in. I nipped them in the butt before they matured though thank goodness.
