Title: Meeting new friends
Post by: Joanna317 on May 03, 2015, 03:28:38 AM
Hello, so I am a 21 year old mtf transgender that is new to living as female. I have a few great friends that are still with me. Though I would like to meet more people so that I am not just relying on them, you know? They have busy lives and plenty of friends and I want to be like them. I was thinking about meetup.com and just going to events that interest my hobbies. Maybe cooking, hiking, metaphysics, etc. I'm 6'3 and slender structure, somewhat passable I would say if it was not for the height lol. Also my voice could be better but I am working on it. So the thing is, would it be safe for me to join in on these meetups that interest me? since chance of me being clocked are pretty likely.

Hi Joanna,

It all depends a little on the area you live and their prevailing prejudices (if any).

I'm fully out and I interact in society as any normal woman would. If people think I'm TG or ask if I am it is no concern to me. I have found it is no concern to them either. People are friendly and ask questions to start a conversation.

A bit like 'Oh you are from Venus! Wow never met a Venusian before'

Lots of people join clubs and societies to meet new friends, I think it a great thing to do.

So go for it and enjoy meeting new people and enjoying your life!

Don't let height be the issue. My sisters good friend is 6'3", the shortest of 6 girls.

Thanks! Btw I live in the los angeles area, so people are pretty open minded being a big city and all. Doesn't mean you can let your guard down though. Bad people do lurk everywhere...

I never said don't be vigilant. Definitely be aware of your surroundings. I'm only saying, be who you are, height isn't a deciding factor.

Thanks again Lordkat. The heighth reference you said does help with my self esteem. I just have to remember that there are tall girls out there like me. Volleyball and basket ball players, etc. Just like Gabrielle Reece, she is beautiful!

So is my sisters' good friend! Yes, there are really tall cisladies out there. Be yourself, no one else can do it for you.

Joanna, I wouldn't sell yourself short. Your height and even voice are not that big of an issue. People tend to think woman have to have a high bubbly voice or you have to be short. However that isn't the case. Each of us different and unique from another. As others pointed many are taller than you are and beautiful. My therapist's voice is lower than mine and mine passes just fine. There are woman out there that their voices are in the mail voice range so there is wide variety when comes to voices just like there is to height. We keep thinking there is a certain look and feel that we have to aspire to and that isn't the case. Cindy is right you need to take account your as to what the possibilities that may exist there. Many do try dating sites and that has worked for them. I wish the best of luck and remember your among friends here too. Good luck and hugs
Mariah
