I'll be getting my hair done at a salon on Friday! The hair dresser knows that I identify as a transgender woman and says she's looking forward to giving me a look that will better match my identity. And she seems really sweet.
I would love to hear some "first time I got a female hair cut" stories!
Have fun! I'd love to give you my story, but sadly it involves my hair arriving in a box in the post!! :)
I've tried to spend as little time with hair stylists as possible. You have to remember that it's in their best interest for you to have a style/cut that requires as much costly maintenance as possible. A long simple cut can be maintained without seeing a stylist very often and offers the greatest versatility.
My hairstylist is a lady that I met at church in a new couples orientation class. My ex and I happened to sit by her and they hit it off and during their chat it emerged that she owned a beauty salon. So I started going to her for my male cut and found her to be a nice caring person. Fast forward a year and I am on the brink of a transition and am thinking about where I could go to get it cut post transition. I was still in boy mode and was getting my last ever guy hair cut and I asked her if I could share something with her - and out it came. She turned out to be a great ally and friend and helped me with wigs and makeup. Later when my own hair had grown out she styled it and highlighted it. Yep as lyric said can be expensive to be a girl - get ready for the $100 haircuts. It looks *so* good afterward though :)
