For those who don't know, I moved from Indiana to Pennsylvania after family fight and to be with my fiance' and live with him. This week I drove back to Indiana to go to my last doctor's appointment, which the doctor promised to sign off on gender marker forms. So soon after I had my doctor's visit, I immediately went to the Indiana DMV and got my gender marker changed from M to F. O M G it's awesome to have the gender marker match my photo for ONCE on an identification card. I wouldn't even go out to bars and such because I didn't want to show my crappy old ID.
The only issue I had at the DMV was they changed the process of changing the gender marker. It used to be the agent at the office could go in and change it and be done with it, she had a little hard time trying to figure out and call the downtown office to get them to do it. I she was told that lucky trans people were getting by with their gender marker changes without doctor's certification because the agents would change the gender to make it match with how they present themselves. I know this is true because when I went to do my name change two months ago, the lady tried to change my gender and it wouldn't let her. It would of been so much cheaper (Cost of travel) and less time consuming if she was able to do it two months ago :\
So today I went to the post office here in Harrisburg to submit for a new passport and the lady handled me very well and was polite. Once I get my new passport card, I'll go to PennDOT and have them register me in Pennsylvania and what'll be the most awesomeness thing is I will be in their system as gendered female and my name and no where in my record of my old name and gender. Exciting xD
I got my software upgraded, now to work on the hardware. (im such a nerdy girl xD) ... now to find a doctor/surgeon that accepts insurance for gender change surgery. My insurance pays for it 100% minus my $150 deductible.
I am also in search for a new doctor to prescribe me HRT. If anyone knows of any in the Harrisburg area, please do let me know :-)
Great news, thanks for sharing it with us! :)
Hugs, Devlyn
That's great Congratulations :)
Congrats. Don't get too excited about the history though. It will be in NCIC unfortunately. But most cops I know don't care if you don't have any warrants or child support. States also share data for traffic tickets so if you have old tickets it will be there.
In NJ they have a special form to change gender. Therapist or doctor has to sign off, I'm going to do mine soon.
Congrats Alexis. Hugs
