Title: Voice Training Online?
Post by: Dimples on May 11, 2015, 04:11:37 AM
I hope this isn't a stupid question!

I was curious as to whether or not there are any really good online coaches to help train my voice. Are online lessons recommended in general, my concern would be that skype or any voice program wouldn't accurately capture your voice due to the mic quality and just the fact that phone voices aren't always accurate (or at least I think, I could be totally wrong about this!). What are your experiences on the matter? Good? Bad?

I would really like to start vocal training, but my area doesn't have any coaches that would deal in this particular subject.

Hi I use EVA they are downloadable apps for smart phones and the like...

They are good, but you really need to be able to commit... But not bad

What exactly do they do and what are they for? Do they come with training or tutorial videos? Thanks for the information!

They were created by a voice trainer who tends to specialise in Transgender voice training, anyway they are a mix of video ( intro's and examples) followed by testing, where you repeat the sounds in turn show in the training video, the tests are ranked and allow you to repeat or if 90% or better (up to you) move on, but if you move on before you are ready, you will tend to fail... There are 5 apps, breathe, pitch, pitch 2, Pitch 3 and Pitch 4... These are the MTF they also have a range for FTM too...

There is a cost, for me in Australia on iPhone they were approx $15 each I think...

I am still on breathing and Pitch 1, because I can't get consistent time on them, and my voice is old and breaks down a bit quicker...

But on the whole they do seem good, I'll keep going, but because of age and how your brain remembers things, i'll opt for surgery as it takes away the risk of fail when when your out of your comfort zone, or cough etc.... But thats my lazy and reasoned excuse  ::)

There are YouTube videos.

CandiFLA is popular.

Finding Your Female Voice (Andrea James and Calpernia Addams) is also popular. It's available free on YouTube but also as a DVD for purchase from them. I don't think site rules allow me to link them but you can easily find it.

Thanks for the information! I've heard about that and I've looked into YouTube videos as well, but I am sort of looking for a more hands on approach, where I can get the guidance I need and make sure I'm doing the exercises right. It also helps to have feedback

Andrea offers one on one consultations, I believe. They mention that in the FYFV videos.
