Title: Questions to ask DR. Meltzer at my SRS Consult.
Post by: Mariah on May 13, 2015, 12:28:11 AM
I know there are some obvious things that I should ask about the procedure, functionality, recovery and the like. What I would like to know is what questions do you feel need asking. What should I be prepared to ask because I know I want to come in composed with any questions and concerns  Thanks
Mariah

1)  How much recovery time is needed before having sex?
2)  What do you do if a sneeze triggers bleeding from the stitches?
3)  Does one really have to wait a year (RLE/RLT) before he will preform SRS?
4)  Do you need to be on HRT for SRS....with Dr. Meltzer?
5)  Wait times are long with Dr. Meltzer.  Who would he recommend as another choice for SRS?
6)  Any such thing as expedited medical attention for SRS?
7)  How long before having some water park fun after SRS?

Hi, I've got a couple more questions for Dr Meltzer (seeing him in about a week)...

My apt is accessed by climbing two flights of stairs; is this doable during the first recovery period (up to 5 weeks post op)?

Also, I've felt erectile tissue extending inside the body, perhaps 1"-2"...it is about the size of the P, just wondering if that is trimmed during SRS?

I think it's wise to ask him, but if it helps, Brassard had his recovery house designed with stairs on purpose - for people who are about 2 days post-op. :)

Note: I had a consultation date with Dr. Meltzer for May 5th.  So, since you are asking. One question that will nag at me if not answered.  'How long from the consultation would my surgery be scheduled?'  Planned on asking him myself but his wait times are (reported to be) too long so I went a different route.

Thank you.

I got the consult and the surgery date at the same time...surgery was ~14 months after consult.

After some complaining ("WAAaaah! Waaaaaaah!!" I think is what I said...;) ) I got it moved to 5 months post-consult.

Mine is scheduled 17 months after the consult. Your method worked so well, I should see what I can do about the date of mine.

I received the May 5th date back in December!  Long wait to just talk about SRS in 17 months. Won't be getting back that $100 fee.  More than likely my $1,000 deposit for SRS with Dr. Bowers will meet a similar fate.

Mmm...can I donate my deposit and spot in line to someone else?  My Surgery date with her was August 2016.
Seems like the ethical thing for her to let me do.  Bet you $1,000 she won't let me.

Friday is my SRS date in L.A.

Remember, I whined to the insurance company, not directly to the Scottsdale office.

Good luck!

Got back Thursday from my 3 day vacation/consult...had a GREAT time there even if I didn't *do* a whole lot (Arizona is beautiful, but very HOT in late May! Typical daytime temp was 95-97^F, and I left just as a week-long heat wave was coming in...they were expecting temps of 105^F+ for the next week    :o )

First day I located the office and surgery center. My navigator app (which uses Google) didn't correctly find the office, fyi it is just north of East Indian Bend road, some distance north of the Greenbaum Surgery Center.

The day of the appt they were running late, I got in about an hour after my appt time but I remember reading that since Dr Meltzer gives the consultee as much time as needed one should expect some delays.

As it was, my appt was fairly quick. I already understood the surgery process itself, the recovery also. I just had a few questions (mainly about stairs and sex LOL) and then he did the exam, which is just a quick look at downstairs to assess if he needs to graft and how the hair removal process is going (fyi, the medical office I'm using is obviously using a more powerful (and effective) laser than the usual salon place, and it shows. I've had 4 sessions of clearing ($200/session, btw) and it's almost all gone.)

Don't forget to ask about the surgery info package, although they can (and did 8) ) email it if one forgets to ask.  :-X

He has several books in his waiting room by and about transexuals to help one pass the time. There's one, a comic book, that is *hilarious*, here's the author's site. (http://www.jsayers.com/books.html) (I have no financial interest, besides two of the three books are free downloads)

Piper and her colleagues at the front desk is awesome, very helpful and knowledgeable.

FYI, there is a Walgreens closer to the hotel, but I didn't find it soon enough to mark it before I left. The one that is marked is in a parking lot with a "Basha's", which is a local grocery store chain.

I believe he ran about 45 min behind the day I was seen which as you noted I was expecting considering I believe it says something about the wait on his website. I like the fact I didn't feel rushed when talking to him as well. It's amazing how some of the routine doctors try to force us in and out and you feel like your pushed to soon. Good thing because I was about 10 min late to the appointment which they were completely understanding of. That is the one thing the staff has really been helpful. I had to call in and ask okay I'm at the building where are you located inside the building when I got there. Stupid me forgot to bring which check which suite they were in before leaving the hotel. It was definitly warm. I'm glad mine is scheduled in the fall because of the heat they get. If it makes you feel better Beth I didn't get a whole lot done besides the consult in the short time I was there and barely squeezed the zoo into that time with my family tagging along. Hugs

Something I thought about, but forgot to write down (and therefore didn't ask  :( )...

Ask to see before/after pics of his work. I'm told they don't share that over email, but if one attends his conferences or has a consultation with him, he is able to show them.
