Title: Lazer body hair or wait?
Post by: Racheliv on May 14, 2015, 05:10:31 PM
Hi,

I was trying to get a plan together for hair removal. Def going to give lazer on my face a shot, even though I'm pale with blond facial hair.

I was wondering if I should also spend time on my body hair as well. I've heard hrt will lessen and lighten it overtime, but chest and stomach stubble is really setting me off. I'm shaving every three days at least to keep up now, only good for the 1st day if I want to show any skin.

So, any opinions? Lazer it off or focus on my face and wait (hopefully soon) to get on hrt and let it do its thing?

Thanks

One person's view: if you want to get rid of body hair, and don't like shaving (itchy! ingrown hairs!), try epilating.

Although the first time is not that much fun, it's shocking how easy subsequent sessions are. It also weakens the hair follicle and they come back lighter and lighter over time.

Add HRT and the effects are magnified. After two years, I usually only epilate couple of weeks, with very few hairs coming in and all very fine...

Hi Rachel,

I am 2 years on HRT and my torso is pretty much without hair except the super small light hair. My legs have thin hair and it is more sparse. I think it was like this for a year.

Your call on body hair bit you may want to try Eveline's advise.

hrt won't be too quick with chest, just as it won't for facial hair. (other areas it doesn't really affect is pubic as well as arm pit hair) Since I won't be starting in a long time and I'd like to see my chest in any way, I decided to focus on face and chest, I'd say you should probably go for chest. hrt only really works with leg and arm hairs, not much else.. Hair-wise, that is.

I'll be getting everything lasered off, face to ankles, starting in about July.  The place I'll be going will do 6 full body sessions for like $975. I figure 9 sessions will be needed, so that's like close to $1500 to have all my hair permanently lasered off over the course of a about a year.  Maybe less if I can get on hormones soon as 6 sessions may be enough for some areas.

I wax my body hair. I have mixed results. However I do it myself with a $10 Brazilian wax kit. If you're going that route, buy extra strips from Amazon. You will run out. A wax heater may be a good investment but I have a microwave in the bedroom so I don't have to keep running to the kitchen.

Estrogen and lack of T is supposed to thin it out and my arms and legs are proof of that. The hairs there are thin and wispy and not thick like they were before. Hopefully my body hair will follow suit. Interestingly enough I shaved my back and it hasn't grown back.

Shaving sucked, left me too itchy from stubble...

Body hair will go on HRT...
Before HRT really kicked in, I used to Epilate, now after many years on HRT, I only epilate Arms and legs, upper legs are a must, lower not really needed same as Arms, but just hate hair, even the light and downy type... although one day I'll get bored with doing my arms. But back of hands may need Electro or Laser.

As Eveline said, it also helps in breaking down the follicles...

Thanks for the replies :)

Sounds like an epilatior is the way to go. Scary looking machines lol

Might give waxing a shot, I dont know though I'm prone to making a mess (seeing a puddle of wax locked in my bathroom rug lol)

I vote for laser now! ;D
Some of the best money I ever spent. Remember to do it before you go gray...otherwise it wont work!

Always best to start hair removal as soon as you can and if you can use laser do it will speed things up. Hugs

I used an epilator (a.k.a torture device as my friends call it) a number of times on my legs. I am not sure if it was the epilation that made it more sparse or the estrogen alone, but I barely ever shave my legs anymore because there is so little hair. The hair that is there is so so thin and a lot softer than it used to be. I can't remember my old monkey hair legs at all. Not a memory I am upset about forgetting- that is for sure.

My upper body hair more or less disappeared within half a year after starting Finasteride (of course, getting Spiro and then estrogen some months later helped accelerate it). Now I find myself only needing hair removal around my nipples. So I recommend waiting, you may lose a lot of body hair for "free", and what's better than not spending more than necessary on hair removal, when there's so much else to spend money on?

Hey all,

Wanted to post an update.

So I picked up a emoji epilator today. I'm going to have to wait a few days to try it out (shaved last night). Hopefully i won't mind the pain too much, couldn't be worse than tats or piercings, right? lol

Going to hold off on body lazering for now. I'm not on hrt yet (doc tomorrow though:), but I think either way the cash is better spent on my face.

Any epilator tips. I'm thinking get a few days growth and have at it

Thanks

Rachel.

Hold it slightly at an angle, I go against the grain of the hair. Sometimes I would do kind of a swirly motion to make sure to get all of the hairs. It takes a while.

I would focus on one part of the body at a time, the battery doesn't last terribly long so you kind of have to pick and choose to do things symmetrically

i found a Hot shower and towel dry really helps too... Hair stands up a bit more and skin is suppler so epilating is not as tense... Well thats scientific explanation  ::)

So I took some time this Saturday and got it done :)

Pretty intense lol. 1st time I flicked it on I nearly packed it back up to return lol. Hot shower before was def a good idea thanks Katy.

The one I bought has two rollers on it and was kind of difficult to get a feel of what angle/motion to use. Thankfully it's a corded one and didn't have to worry about slowing down due to low juice.

Pretty happy with the results, hope next time won't be as painful
