Title: 3 wks on T and spotting. Any similar stories?
Post by: dub_ on May 17, 2015, 06:57:31 AM
I'm new here, so I hope this is the appropriate place to post this.

I reached my 3 week on T mark this weekend, and given the timing of my cycle, I did end up getting a regular period this month. About 4 days after I finished, I started to get some spotting and it's been like this ever since (about 5 days now). It doesn't seem to be getting lighter, but it does look to be getting somewhat heavier from time to time. I could swear that I had a bit of stomach pain as well, but I could be over exaggerating. Could this be a second period/a gift from hell?

I know that spotting is common, but I haven't heard many people say that they've had it this early on in their T usage, and also right after a period. I'm trying not to stress, but given all my excitement with starting T and anticipating changes, this isn't exactly the biggest self-esteem booster. I'm gonna bring it up to my doctor at my next shot appointment next week, but I wanted to get other opinions as well.

Just wondering if any of you guys have had a similar experience.

I didn't personally have that issue but have heard of others doing so. Your body is having to adjust to some drastic changes. It can take some time, months perhaps, before it balances out. Your doc may adjust your dosage if he thinks that will help.

Welcome to Susan's, dub.

This is something you really should tell your doctor about. It could be that your dose is too high (in which case the excess T is converted to estrogen) -- or it could be something else. It hasn't happened to me in the 15 months I've been on T, but I see my doctor every 3-4 months, and it's something she always asks me about.

I'll definitely bring this up with my doctor; I'm due for my shot next Saturday. I go to weekly shots after this one, so hopefully it will help regulate this. It essentially has turned into a second period - and thinking about it now, I even got a little crave-y for fatty foods last week.
I know this is a huge change to my body, but I'm still having difficulty adjusting to the idea of more than one period a month, haha. Just seems weird that this happened so quickly after my last period and right after my second shot.

I never thought about my T levels being too high and converting to estrogen. I haven't really had any other side effect to be honest. Skin slightly oily, but other than that, I haven't felt much different. I'm only about 110-115lbs, but I'm not sure what effect weight has on testosterone (maybe it's too much for my weight?). I guess it should be noted that I had a pap before I started T that came back normal, so all is well on that front.

Thanks for the replies, guys.

I started T on 12/5 last year. I was 1 week late for my period about two weeks after that, and it was very light but lasted longer than usual. It continued like this for the next two months, until going away completely after that. You're only 3 weeks in, so your body is probably just taking some time to adjust to the testosterone. Unless you are in pain or having a lot of bleeding, I would not stress. It will likely go away soon.
