I had my picture taken Friday and it was the first timeI became aware that my hair is thinning. I'm looking for any advice, from a style that will hide this to lopping it off and going back to wearing wigs. I've had white hair since my teenage years, so that doesn't bother me, but the bald spot does! Please help.
Hugs, Devlyn
Here's the picture that's causing me so much heartache.

finesturide and rogaine would probably help a lot. I was almost completely bald back there when I started years ago.
Ponytail or up do til HRT kicks in.I had a larger bald spot there.
I've got a similar spot that has filled in since I started HRT but not enough. My hairstylist played with it and figured out a way that I could style it in the back so that it's not apparent. Also, it is very cute too. That might be something you can try.
Women have been dealing with hair loss for forever. For some of us it's just another one of those things you have to deal with. It's possible HRT and/or medications can replace your loss, but if I were you I would more immediately deal with it the way most women with alopecia do-- by wearing a hairpiece or wig. It can be quite a hassle and expense to attain one that works for you and wearing a wig isn't entirely like having your own hair, but life is full of trade-offs. There are a number of excellent wig and hair loss forums on the web.

My male friends and colleagues who underwent hair transplantation seem to be satisfactory on the results.

I don't know if you're on HRT or not, but if not your options might be limited. Regaine could help though.
I haven't heard of the coconut or egg treatment ideas, but it's interesting. I didn't find anything on it relating to overcoming hair loss, but apparently some people think it does improve your hair's appearance. Check this article in which an E reporter tried several such unusual treatments: http://www.eonline.com/news/573272/i-tried-5-wacky-diy-hair-treatments-and-put-eggs-on-my-head-in-hopes-of-achieving-blake-lively-s-beautiful-tresses (http://www.eonline.com/news/573272/i-tried-5-wacky-diy-hair-treatments-and-put-eggs-on-my-head-in-hopes-of-achieving-blake-lively-s-beautiful-tresses)
Thining hair .. one of the things that affects me for years already .
Online one will find all kind of advices and products that promise to have Raspunzel's hair in days , yet mostly don't work .
My opinion is that first thing that should be done is finding the root cause or causes : it may be the thyroid malfunctions , nutrition and restriction diets , age , DHT , drugs , parasites , dermatological conditions , stress , surgeries , traumas , smoking , anemia , lifestyle , ...... just too many and usually they are mixed .
Only after that you would now what treatment to use .
Minoxidil is a great solution especially for DHT related thinning , but also after its use is stopped the new hairs will fall .
Thyroid malfunctions are quite often , especially for people who already interfered with the delicate hormonal balance like transexuals do .
They are also accompanied by iron and vitamin d deffciency , both affecting the follicles .
Stress and traumas of any kind are well known to cause hair loss also but it will regrow .
Also although it shouldn't even be mention , the nutrition plays a major role , yet the majority is eating sooo wrong . Beside focusing on avoiding junk - packaged -processed food , gmos , pesticides , ... , one should focus on getting enough proteins , healthy SATURATED fats and vitamins / minerals . The b complex ( especially the biotin - b7 ) is well known for hair treatments , but also the A , D , E are very important , so is C in producing collagen . Also you need to have enough zinc , yet balanced with cooper , enough iron for good oxygenation , enough seleniu yet balanced with iodine , silica , and so on .
MSM is a natural source of sulphur and it helps the hair in many ways , it lengthens the growing phase , it enhance the growth rate and the quality of the hair strands .
Finasteride helps thickening the hair strands sometimes .
Also some shampoos with zinc or pto help thickening the hair strands and healing dandruff .
Vichy has Aminexil for stopping hair loss and also Neogenic for regrowth , similar with Kerastase Densifique , based on a substance that should wake up the dorman hair follicles .
There are many other products which use natural substances , but i doubt they really help .
For some even massaging the scalp every morning and evening 5 miutes or so helps a lot because it increases circulation . Some do it with their heads hanging upside down for a better blood flow . Also red peppers enhance blood flow there and it might help .
Castor oil is used for regrowth or enhancing the growth rate , it should be massaged on scalp 30 minutes - 2 hours prior to showering . Some mix it with a drop or two of rosemarin essential oil .
One of the things that should be used in creating the perspctive of the problem is that the hair is a luxury our body will give up first time there is some difficult times sensed . It can be seen as an indicator of the state of our health . Also hair changes occurs with a delay up to 100 days , so if you think you are doing the right thing you should have patience and continue even if the results don't appear yet .

I think there may be some merit to methods that involve massage, oil and increased blood flow to the scalp. After reading and watching videos online about the "Inversion Method" of increasing hair growth rate, I recently tested it myself. This is a method in which you massage in oil, then invert the head for a few minutes. You do it daily for only one week a month and some people claim to had grow of as much as an inch in one week.
I didn't get results anywhere close to that, but my hair did grow about 1/3 inch over the week, which is significantly more than my normal summer growth rate. Supposedly, you can't do it consistently or your body adjusts to it. Anyway, as I understand it, increased growth rate can help minimize hair loss as well, so I may continue to do it. The only drawback I found was having to wash my oily hair every day. I normally only wash my hair a couple of times a week.

Oh. Thanks for the new method. Probably I will try it. What kind of oil will be good?

I didn't go out buy anything special, so I did as one blogger I read did and used extra virgin olive oil. Most recommend oils more commonly used on the hair, though. The best sounding combo is a mix of cocoanut oil and castor oil. These are both supposed to be very good for the scalp and hair, so I'll probably pick some up before I do it again. If you google "inversion method" you'll find a number posts around the web on it.
