Title: Very unexpected HRT change
Post by: Erica_Y on May 24, 2015, 09:43:21 PM
I am about 20 months HRT and I have pretty fair skin always have. As a result I used to get sun burnt very easily and really had to be on top of sun screen. Tanning was never really an option. I noticed this spring that my skin is not burning like it used to but is getting a nice tan instead after just being out for short or slightly longer times. This is a cool turn of events I was not expecting at all 8)

Have others noticed the same where their skin response changed to sunlight good or bad?

Burning instead of tanning first for me.

My skin turned darker in some places around my face, which I found really odd because I use SPF50 (I really like having a pale skin)

I suspect it was Melasma (google has some images). It went away by itself.

FYI: I'm IS.

I was born with PAIS, and Albinism.  I had white hair and skin, and would start to burn in about five minutes.

My body has been slowly producing pigmentation, since starting.  I can be out side for about an hour or so.  But I don't burn like I use to.

So, by unknowingly fixing one disease, it's curing the other.  Go figure.

Ditto. stephanie. I've become quite thin skinned already and am not taking estrogen. Perhaps its the spiro or just aging, I don't know. I'm a little concerned about it getting even thinner if I'm able to start HRT.

I got waaay paler.  It doesn't look that way in my profile picture, but I used to walk around getting mistaken as someone of Latino descent, while currently, I can't think of anyone off the top of my head who looks paler than I do lol.  Scared to go out in the sun for very long.

Those are interesting changes and conversely my skin is even more sensitive to sunlight.  I am reminded that after laser and using Retin-A products we are more susceptible to damaging UV with real damage and skin cancers a possibility.

Hmm.. I do seem to be in the minority on this one. I have had numerous freckles come out as well especially on the arms which others have had.

I am by no means going to become a sun bather as I do not want to increase risk however it is nice to know I can get a bit of a tam over the summer instead of just burning.

I too have had a surprising skin change on HRT, i've suffered eczema for my entire life, i've been in hospital many times & I was put on immno suppressants early last year.
I couldn't be out in direct sunlight for fear of my skin coming out in a heat rash thus opening the door for a severe flare up. Over the last year my skin has improved in leaps & bounds, I can now be out in sunlight for a couple of hours without the heat rash starting up, i've not had to take the immno suppressants for several months now & my skin has never been clearer. I knew that HRT could have a difference with regards to my eczema, there was an equal risk of my skin improving or getting worse, I got lucky with this roll of the dice.

My skin can still react badly to make-up so I rarely risk using it but at no other point in my life has my skin been so clear for so long.
