The following is the official White House announcement declaring June National Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month.

PRESIDENT OBAMA:
"From the moment our Nation first came together to declare the fundamental truth that all men are created equal, courageous and dedicated patriots have fought to refine our founding promise and broaden democracy's reach. Over the course of more than two centuries of striving and sacrifice, our country has expanded civil rights and enshrined equal protections into our Constitution. Through struggle and setback, we see a common trajectory toward a more free and just society. But we are also reminded that we are not truly equal until every person is afforded the same rights and opportunities — that when one of us experiences discrimination, it affects all of us — and that our journey is not complete until our lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) brothers and sisters are treated like anyone else under the law.

Easier, I suppose, to make a proclamation like this than to let Trans people serve openly in the military or press congress for an anti-discrimination amendment.

***Close your mouth Suzi. Your cynicism is showing.***

Why is he not shouting from the rooftops for ENDA? He is a lame duck now. He is not facing re-election. I'm not gonna quote Samuel L Jackson, but you get the idea.

That's strange that I was just saying yesterday that eventually GLBT people would get a pride/history month just like African Americans and Latinos.

I'm looking forward to the day where we no longer longer have to fight for our rights and pride month will become just like any other American holiday, where we celebrate with with lots of grilled food, booze, and discounts at furniture stores (or in our case, discounts on electro or laser would be nice). Unfortunately, I think that day is pretty far in the future with trans* people.

June was already Pride month...just left some people out. And it was unofficially Pride month for ages before that.

At least Obama has thrown the BT into the mix.

Just let me know when any republican leader says or does as much.  Our success is not dependent on any president.  Its up to us.

I welcome the Declaration and note this President is the first to acknowledge us (B and T) at all.
