Title: Broad Shoulders
Post by: akegia on June 01, 2015, 08:32:20 AM
Hey,

So I have never cared for my shoulders, I think they are too broad and masculine. It rather upsets me, I am trying to break that. So is 17" broad for someone that is right at 6ft even/slightly below 6 even? Or am I just worrying about stupid things :P

Yes You are worried about stupid things :). HRT will decrease the shoulder muscle mass significantly (I had about 20-21 inches) and that WAS something to worry about. Now, they are somewhere around 16" which appears to be quite acceptable - at least I dont get challenged on them and do blend in nicely. I dunno, but maybe when people look at me, they see slightly athletic built female - at least I can always say that I did competitive swimming...

:) Mine actually can't get any smaller. I only weigh 115 at 6", my shoulders as they are are just skin/bone. So sadly I doubt they will get to 16 or lower, but oh well. Can't get upset over things we can't change.

Sadly skin and bone will not get smaller. But it's not so much about how broad shoulders are, it's about how balanced they are with your waist and hips... While you can't do much to change shoulders, your hips and waist can be changed with time (HRT), diet and surgery.

what you can do is try to add some hip to balance your shoulder, and selecting the style of shirt to wear is also help, like V-neck or some like that.

My fiancee, a cis female, has broad shoulders. In fact, hers are broader than mine.

She compensates by wearing darker colored shirts with lighter pants, since the darker colors have the effect of slimming, which seems to work with bone structure too.

Regardless of how wide they are, with enough time on hrt they will eventually round out and be woman shoulders if that makes sense. Plenty of women have broad shoulders, the difference is how the fat in that area looks vs men's shoulders. Guy's shoulders are much more defined. So if you gain weight while on hrt they'll look a lot better since you're on the thinner side. Also make sure your shoulders are always back and not going forward, that makes a pretty big difference in terms of how big they look.

One more thing: V necks, scoop top and raglan sleeves will diffuse the length of your shoulders.
Dressing up that is appropriate with your body shape will always do the trick.

Skip skinny jeans!!! This will make your shoulders bigger :)

I have broad shoulders, but also smaller, standing at 5'2''.
I like sweaters and coats as they kinda make it slightly more manageable and not look as just masculine, at least that's what I believe.

Me too....
However have worked out that wearing flared sweaters and tunic style tops that pull in round the waist and flare a bit over the bum and hips helps... well I think it helps me  :P

AAAHHH the good old days. Shoulder pads used to be in and when i got a new blouse with them, the first thing I did was to rip them out. I still nicely filled out the blouse. I stay away from sleeveless tight fitting tops and that pretty well takes care of it.
