Title: Can you loose your HRT for seeking out therapists in Ontario?
Post by: Stardust Alan on June 01, 2015, 01:46:23 PM
Good after noon everyone. This is my first post and I'm sorry if this is out of line or a repeat of another. I'm currently in a hurry trying to find information to help a friend in need. If you live in Ontario, Canada and seek a therapist to help you work through emotional struggles, does that automatically disqualify you from any and all HRT programs? Does any one know of any resources in or around Hamilton, Ontario? Below I'm posting a letter I'm sending out to possible resources that could help me find answers to my questions. Thank you for your time.

Hi there,
I'm contacting you for a couple different reasons. For starters, I am from the states. Recently, came out as trans and after talking to a good friend of mine she highly recommended you. For the past four months it has been my goal to move to Hamilton and under go my transition as a patient of Dr. X's.

But, more pressing right now is my good friend. She is... very dear to me, and also a patient of Dr. X's. Over the past couple months I've noticed some changes in her personality. She tends to struggle more emotionally, and at the urging of finding her help such as a therapist to talk to, she refuses out of worry that she will be removed from any kind of HRT program.

Further more, after learning that I myself might be on the highly functional side of the autistic spectrum, I questioned if she might be as well, and that this depression and anxiety is part of the autism. My suspicions for both of us were only further provoked once I started talking to others who were confirmed. We, my friend and I as well as the others, share similar behavioral patterns and habits.

I desperately want to urge my friend to seek out to have herself tested for this, as I feel it will give her peace of mind if she was able to learn that this was the cause of whats bothering her. I know that as soon as I bring it up she will tell me that if she seeks someone to help her with this, or if she is found to be such, she will be deemed mentally incapable of handling the strains from going through her transition and removed from nay programs.

So, I am writing to you on be half of her, and myself. Is this true? Are there resources located close to Saint Catherine's and Hamilton where I might seek answers to this question?

Thank you for your time.
