Title: NorCal Bay Area Therapy Recommendations?
Post by: Obfuskatie on June 02, 2015, 02:12:19 PM
I've always hated asking for help, but I need it. Do any of y'all know any good psychologists/therapists in the San Francisco area? I live in the East Bay, and I'm very reticent to trial and error methods for finding one. I don't need them for prescriptions or letters, but I'd prefer someone I didn't have to teach about trans stuff. Even just somewhere I could look for patient reviews would be a godsend.

I would have recommended getting in touch with Dr O's office but he has moved his operation to his apparent successor. http://www.drofacialsurgery.com/contact-us-san-francisco/index.html

I think Marci Bowers has in office in the South Bay and she would likely be familiar with experienced therapists in the area. My first therapist was Gianna Israel who, of course, is deceased.

Dr. Bowers does have an office here: http://marcibowers.com/blog/bowers-new-hospital/

I actually got my FFS with Dr. O and his successor Dr. Deschamps-Braly. That's not a bad idea, I have another appointment with them soon, so I'll see if they have anyone they can refer me to.

and start a further research on each person...

Is it weird that I hesitate to choose a therapist with an @aol.com email? I'm just wondering if I'm being a snob. Does anyone know if the BAGA thing is still a thing? (Bay Area Gender Associates I think) The blog is woefully out of date by 9 years, but it'd be nice if it were. But thanks for your links, I'm net-vestigating.

Anne Vitale is one of the most prominent trans psychologists in the world:

Who requires you to pre-pay for therapy? That's a somewhat crazy idea.

I have emailed back and forth with Anne Vitale.  I think she is good, but she mostly does skype sessions, unless you are in the North Bay.  I have used Rebecca Auge (http://rebeccaaugephd.blogspot.com/).  I really liked her, but my sessions with her was to get a letter written for my FAA medical.

That gave me pause when as well, it seemed a bit mercenary/off-putting  to me.
I guess I'll start with emailing a couple of them and see from there. Again, I am astounded that people still have @aol.com email addresses, but wutevs...

Well I'd say go with your feelings...

This thread helps me bunches! When it comes to asking for help, I end up being way too scared to ask, like at all at all.

By the way, there are so many Kate/Katie's out here in the bay area.

Srsly. I picked it as my preferred name in 2006, which of course made it cool [emoji41]

Mine was given to me in a dream, based off of a fateful, accidental call back in June 6, 2009. Wasn't my choice for the name, it came to me. It's just so fun and mysterious how I had claimed the name!
