Title: Indiana restrooms.
Post by: Equestriaghoul on June 07, 2015, 03:04:59 AM
Hello.

Does anyone know if Indiana has any laws about which restrooms we have to use?

I was told that I had to use the restroom of my legal sex, and I usually do, so as to not cause a panic. But some places only have one toilet per restroom, and so sometimes I have gone into the women's room when the men's room was taken, and nobody complained. I've also seen others doing it for the same reason, and again, nobody complained. I've checked google, but have either gotten results for other states(despite the fact that I specifically typed "Indiana"), or gotten results that had nothing to do with who is allowed to used which restroom.

Does anyone here know? I'd like to know so that I can be sure that I won't get a criminal record just for going to the restroom. No criminal record is one of the few things I have going for me right now, so I don't want to lose it.

I don't think that my city would have a law against it, if anything, it would probably be one of the few cities that would have a law against preventing me from choosing which restroom I use, that is, if there isn't a state wide law.(which is what I'm asking about, not a local law).

Thank you for your time.

The Human Rights Campaign is a great resource. Basically Indiana has no protections against discrimination in "Public Accomidations" (Actually, only 17 stares do) http://www.hrc.org/states/indiana (http://www.hrc.org/states/indiana). The Indiana Transgender Network amazingly did not say (I may have missed it) if there was a law prohibiting use http://indianatransgendernetwork.com/news/indiana-news/transphobia-in-public-restrooms-made-into-law/ (http://indianatransgendernetwork.com/news/indiana-news/transphobia-in-public-restrooms-made-into-law/).

In most states there are no specific laws against a male using a female restroom. Of course the ensuing ruckus is a different matter. Assuming there is a ruckus. In general use the restroom that you are presenting as. If a Bathroom Nut confronts you, just keep cool, finish your business or opt to leave for another one.
