I'm going to my first informed consent appointment very soon to get my hormones legit prescribed! ;D
I'm just extremely concerned that Howard Brown Health Center may make me stop DIY for my blood test.
If I go more than two days or so without my hormones, my depression comes back, my confidence gets sucked out of me, and I go back to crying all the time, just like before I started HRT.
Antidepressants do absolutely nothing for me. No medication except my hormones helps my depression, emotions, and confidence, as strange as that sounds.
My mind, body, and emotions just do not react well when my T levels get too high.
I won't get suicidal or anything though.
Will the doctors at HBHC understand and not make me stop taking my hormones.?
I'm just really afraid that if I refuse to stop taking my hormones for the blood test, the doctors will refuse to prescribe them for me.
I just really want to get REAL hormones and do this under a doctor's supervision instead of DIY.
While I did self medicate before I did informed consent, I don't know what HBHC will do. For me, my doctor prescribe HRT immediately so that I did not have a gap, but I am not part of the HBHC system and I am on the West Coast. I had blood work done soon after that first visit. You do miss out on what your levels would have been before you ever started HRT, but I would think places that do informed consent are very aware of what it is like to stop HRT for us and be very understanding.
Hi PsychedelicSage,
Maybe be honest with them, explain what you have done, like you have here and say "I'm sorry, but its what it was so how can we overcome this?
This may work... however on the other hand they may not be fussed other than saying what we would all say ::) which is "self medicating is not a smart thing to do"... :police:
Hey good luck with the appointment and hope you get what you desire from them...
L Katy :-*
They wanted blood work a few days after 2 full doses were taken. Nothing before. You will likely be fine.
Most clinics will understand and give you a similar dose to what you were taking. What they won't have is the baseline pre HRT labs but in many cases that doesn't matter.
Call Jahara at HBHC and ask her, you should already have the number and ask her the way Katy said to. That way you'll know for sure.
It's doubtful. They are an informed consent clinic and practice harm reduction. Making you go off HRT causes harm. They want to reduce harm sooooo I doubt they'd do that. Some IC clinics will write your rx the day you see them knowing that their rx isn't going to do more damage than what you are already taking. But like others said, be honest, you aren't going to tell them anything they don't already know :) Good luck!
