I'm a transgirl, so sorry for coming in here hehe
I have a question
ABOUT PENILE IMPLANTS! :P
Do you press a button and the penis gets erected? (penile implants)
I am curious. I feel so bad! Like really? I, or, transwoman (in general) can sometimes cry about not having a 'transplanted' vagina and all (lab-grown :D), I know scientists and stuff should research on how to, uh, make transpeople in general (transmen and transwomen) have the right parts (lab-grown organs (: again)
butttt.....
THEY REALLY SHOULD PUT TRANSMEN ON PRIORITY! It is so difficult for you guys down there. ): I've seen most of the surgeries they have for you down there and I AM SO ANGRY I WOULD SCREAM. I was just researching more about transmen just yesterday and I felt so sad! IT"S NOT FAIR.
UGH ): !!! Scientists HAVE TO put you guys in priority SOON!
RIGHT NOW!
They really need to start making those penis implants made out of your cells and implant them!!!
ugh. the future. wwwhhhhhhhhhhhhhyyyyyy!!! D:
<watch the language please. Cindy>
There are different kinds of penile implants that transmen or cis men for that matter can get. One involves both a testicle and the actual penile implant. One testicle (an implanted one) is filled with a sterile fluid that is connected to the implant in the penis. When the testicular implant is pumped, it pushes the fluid into the implant, causing the penis to become firm. There are also Stiff implants that can go right into the phallus, but since they cannot be controlled as far as making them soft again, there is always the danger of migration of the implant.
Regardless of which way, and there are probably more, realize that the skin of a man made penis is not the same as a God made penis, which means it cannot expand the way it should. In an xy male, a 3-4 inch flaccid penis may increase in length by another 3-4 inches during erection, but an xx male with a surgically made phallus is going to remain the same length whether flaccid or erect. That is one reason why when given a choice by the surgeon as far as length of the phallus, many transmen will opt for the longer phallus.
I hope that answers your question.

sure it answers it :O
i feel bad for the transmen
:(
i hope one day they do get what they deserve :D
thanks!
I think they've already started human trials or are going to soon with the lab grown penises. Of course it's logical to test them on cis men first and it's only a matter of time before they try the technology with transmen. I believe the same doctors have already successfully grown and implanted uteruses in cis women which is pretty exciting in itself because there seems to be an overall focus on reproductive health and one day in the future trans women will be able to give birth. I have no doubt it'll happen, I just hope that technology advances fast enough so we can see these things start to happen within the next 5 - 10 years rather than the next 15 - 20.

can't wait!
has anyone else heard of these trials? i'd happily apply for a vagina, a uterus, oh and I'll take a few ovaries too, please!
didn't you also hear that fertility clinics banned the practice of CREATING sperm and ova for people!?
scientists have created sperm and ovas from omg! skin and stem cells! soo cool! i just need one ova cell of mines and muahahahhah! sperm. hehe. fatherly sperm.
one day i'd like to be a mother ;p
I haven't heard of that before. Actually it kind of raises a red flag. As much as I think it would be great to have "normal" penis, we need to be careful with how far we push the envelope. I'd much rather see something that would allow a young, developing F to M to grow their own penis. The thought of growing body parts in a petrie dish is kind of scary. If we can grow body parts, then old organs could be swaped for new ones and seriously extend the life span. That may sound good on the surface, but where does that leave the next generation? Its a road that I wouldn't want to go down. Every action has consequences and not all of them are good.

Theres a lot of people on the planet... I'm sure both projects could be worked on simultaneously.

Here's an article about the implants:
http://www.nbcnews.com/health/health-news/lab-grown-private-parts-vagina-implants-cure-rare-disorder-n77136
QuoteThere's some potential for use in transgender patients, too, though the focus now is on treating rare medical conditions, Atala said.
One woman who received a uterus transplant was able to give birth too. She had actually been born without a womb so it's pretty incredible that the transplant was such a success.

This is an article about the lab grown penis trials. Apparently they're waiting on approval from the FDA to get started with human trials which they plan to start within the next five years. I'm hoping that once the trials with cis males are successful they'll move onto adapting the technology for transmen. Since we have the same cells the problem wouldn't be growing the penis it would be figuring out how to hook it up so to speak.

Doctors and scientists have already been growing and transplanting other organs like kidneys. There's a shortage of donated organs and so many people on the waiting lists die everyday because of it. The technology is being used for people who are in dire need, not just for people who decide they want to swap out their old heart for a new one. Who knows, maybe the latter will happen in the future but right now lab grown organs are beneficial and saving lives.
It would be great if there was technology that would allow FTMs could grow what's already there but in a way that's what a lab grown phallus would be since it uses the patient's own cells.
There are some benefits from organs grown in a lab, and sure, I would love to have a phallus that was the real thing. what bothers me is that sometimes we take things too far. At this point, maybe we are only making organs for those who would have had a long life were it not for their organ replacement, but my fear is that it won't stop there. Take implants for instance. There are legitimate uses such as the woman who has lost a breast or a man who has lost a testicle and both the woman and man feel like less of their gender without them. We then took implants and started using them to give women with normal breasts into double Ds or putting in pec implants in guys who want a muscular looking chest but don't want to do the work to get them. Implants are not organs sure, but they are an example if technology that was started to restore something that was lost to using them just as frequently or more so for asthetic reasons.
The change doesn't happen overnight. We get used to the procedure of growing something for those who need it, then it becomes something we use for beautification. We don't want to age, so we get face lifts, botox injections, breast implants, pec implants and the list goes on. Where there is money to be made, greed sometimes takes the place of common sense. The "improvements" go to those with all the money, and leave those without money no way to obtain the results of the technology. I'm not saying that all Dr.s are money hungry, but if one patient can pay for a new kidney and the other person is poor, who gets the kidney? Theoretically, it shouldn't be based on money but rather need. That doesn't always happen though.
We just need to be careful when we start growing body parts and have some serious regulation.

I understand what you mean but I guess I don't really mind people using medical technology for cosmetic purposes. To each their own. If a woman wants gigantic implants or a man wants pec implants, who I am to tell them they shouldn't do it? There are many people who would try to tell me that I don't need to start T or have any kind of gender reassignment surgery when it's none of their business what I do with my body. Trying to police everyone and make them conform to your ideals or standards of beauty is something far more dangerous than a woman getting a new set of silicone double Ds.
Wealthy patients already pay to get organ transplants before those who have less money and are on a waiting list so lab growing organs could eventually put an end to that as well since, once it becomes fairly routine, there will be enough lab grown organs to go around. I suppose it could become concerning if people begin replacing organs just to prolong their life span but even then we can't replaces things as extensive as skin or bones yet so an ageing body could only handle so many surgeries.
Brain Transplant Possible in Humans!
Wouldn't it be nice to not go through all those surgeries and just swap our bodies?
Imagine if all transgendered Females can match with transgendered Males (and vice versa) so that we can fit our minds with our body-image. This will take care of sexual organs, height challenges, body shape proportions, facial hair/ hairlines, vocals, fingerprints and other legal identity documentations.
=Combine all surgery costs and pains into only 1.

I think it's a terrible idea.
The brain isn't really something that I would like to have removed from my body. Given how tied in it is to everything, I think transplanting it could potentially be a disaster. I would never consider it an option for myself.
In addition to the complexity of the surgery itself and potential complications, you'd have to essentially have a matchmaking program to facilitate the swap. And that itself would be complex and make the wait list probably enormous - why go through with such a dangerous procedure for a body you aren't 100% crazy about? And imagine people who aren't considered conventionally attractive. They could potentially be on a wait list for years.
And I'd imagine there's some degree of biological compatibility as well, like there are with organ transplants. You would have more luck winning a lottery worth enough money to pay for all necessary surgeries than you would finding a compatible brain donor that matches the way you want your body to look.
