So I changed my gender in my auto insurance to female since I have a new driver license. It was easy, just do it in the online portal. I have a new DL number too (just one digit changed, 0 to 5 in the last 5 digits).
Premium goes up 8 bucks for the remainder of the term (2 months).
What the heck???
I thought that women paid less? That's not why I'm doing this btw. But I just found it odd.
Interesting... I always thought women paid less too. Who do you have auto insurance through?
I'm curious now what will happen when I switch mine, hopefully in the next month or so.

Progressive. Been with them since 2006.
Interesting, mine went down around $15. I'm with State Farm, but I imagine your age and location may have something to do with it as well.

That is weird. Mine went down $15 (through GEICO) when I changed mine and we are in the same state.
I had another thought...I'm single so my relationship status did not change, while you are probably now considered to be in a same-sex marriage. I wonder if that incurs some sort of premium?

I dropped GEICO. They are overpriced.
I can get insurance from USAA so I may end up switching.

Quite possibly. I hadn't considered that.
Oh the other thing is my wife made a big at fault accident the other day on the newer car and it resulted in a $6100 comprehensive claim. So they may be factoring in that.
I had Progressive when my gender marker changed in February 2014 and my premium went up around $18. I don't own a car anymore so I don't have a current policy to compare it to.
I don't believe my insurance costs have changed any even though I went through a divorce and transitioned. I have had state farm ever since I was 16 and they have been very good to me so i'm sticking with them.
I would have thought that my divorce might have changed my rates. My ex was calamity Jane behind the wheel - she had a number of accidents over the 27 years we were together including recently totaling out my daughters jeep as well as always getting lots of tickets whereas I have had no wrecks and my last ticket happened back when I was 17 (i'm 52 now).
I have progressive and my costs dropped. Now I am curious as to the reasoning.
