I just had my top surgery yesterday with Dr Bowman in Vancouver and I'm so happy is finally done. I'm just curious about the pain I'm feeling. I feel like I've been kicked in the ribs (front and sides) with steel toe boots! I'm also struggling to stand up straight it hurts a lot to straighten out and take deep breathes. I feel like this is probably normal but want to know if any of you guys felt like this and how long it lasted for? I had a DI with nipple graft and liposuction.

If you have never seen a liposuction on T.V. or on the web, its not a gentle process. Also, the more tissue that had to be removed, the more likely you are to feel more pain. Surgeons are different, some being very gentle with tissue handling and others are rougher. If you have drains in, sometimes they can cause some discomfort when you move.
If you are living with someone, they can help you sit up. One thing my surgeon had me do during the day after recheck, was to push against his hand which was on my back as I lay down. It made a huge difference and its something another person could do for you. My surgeon also reminded me to take deep breaths a few times every hour to avoid problems from shallow breathing.
As always, if you feel that the pain is greater than what you would consider normal, call your Dr. Its always better to call and find out its not a problem than to wait, try to work through it and find out that you really do have a problem.

Par for the course.
I was very sore and uncomfortable for about three days post-op. The discomfort went away shortly after, and the soreness was completely gone within a few days. The only lingering pain I had was where my drain tubes were inserted.
everyones body is different and different surgeons have different methods
anyways i had no pain at all....u should call your doctor....its probably nothing but better safe than sorry

I felt like my ribs were bruised for a few weeks. I was able to stand up straight after a few days.
I hope your recovery goes well from here on.
I'm #69 on the BC MSP waiting list. Nobody will give me any kind of guesstimate on how long it will take for my turn to come. Did you hear anything that might give a hint as to how many surgeries are being done in BC each month? At this point I'm screwed with work unless the wait is 11-12 months but I really don't want to wait that long even though it would be best for work.

I'm not sure how many surgeries they are doing a month, I'm assuming the waiting list your talking about is the government waiting list? I didn't go that route as it would have been at least a year to see the psychiatrist to get on the list and then I was told it is about two years from there to get in for surgery. So I decided to pay out of pocket, it took me a month to get in for my consult and my surgery was two weeks later ... are you going to be seeing Dr Bowman?

Thanks MacG. . . I definitely feel like my ribs are bruised and I still can't stand straight but I think that has more to do with my vest pulling on my drains than anything else
I've been referred to Dr Chris Taylor. He's not doing anything before September I've been told. I have a consult with dr Mangubat tomorrow and I think that's probably the route I'll go as long as he still has time in August. Feeling like ->-bleeped-<- right now from trying to decide.
