Title: Spermbanking before HRT?
Post by: tgmom123 on June 20, 2015, 11:03:39 AM
Asking for a young MTF friend. Before starting HRT, can you freeze semen and have it stored long-term so that it would be possible to have biological children some day? Where do people go?

http://www.cryochoice.com (http://www.cryochoice.com) is the bank I'll be going through soon.

Way more info on their site, of course. But if you're looking for the quick run-down: it's something like $600 to store and get on their payment plan which looks like $100 something/month. OR if you're willing to pay up front, then it's ~$500.

Otherwise, if memory serves, the first year of storage is free. Each year afterwards is $50.

Hope this helps give you an idea of what to expect :D

On PBS POV they had a teenage transsexual who did not want to save the sperm as she wished she could release a egg into her womb. She did not like to remember that she had the misfortune for being born male.

right before I signed my papers to start HRT my doctor brought this up and I decided against it, I have so many costs and so little money already. More than that I have never had a romantic relationship and can't imagine one in the near future. (sadly its not due to lack of intrest just lack of everything else)

Plus I told my doctor that I don't think I want children and even if I did, there are so many children in the adoption system including a significant number who are LGBT themselves and have a even harder time being placed than other children and so I would give serious consideration to adoption, and if I really really wanted a child with a biological connection to me, I have two younger brothers who I would consider asking to be donors if it came to that.

plus the whole, who really wants to see a bill every month reminding you that your trans and that its costing you money.

That's certainly a fair point, Serena. Adoption is such an excellent alternative.

now if the government would just stop trying there hardest to stop LGBT people from adopting children that would be nice, because clearly a loving compassionate transgender lesbian couple will make a kids life harder than some cis het couple who only wants them for the free check each month and is likely to send them back at the first sign of trouble.
