Title: FreeToM 4-in-1 Issue
Post by: Pizzaparty78 on June 23, 2015, 11:00:39 PM
Hey guys, I just got my freetom today, and I was pretty excited. It was one I bought on clearance for $30, and the description was a little fuzzy. It read, "Sleek 5 1/2" Medium Skin: Small Nicks ". As soon as I saw it, I bought it considering how cheap it was. the page made it sound like it was one of the 4-in-1's, but I wasnt sure.

Anyway, I get it today, open it up, looks good, even with the tiny nick. I try it out for the peeing part, and the it doesn't work! The "hole" is closed up. I don't understand why this would be, considering that I thought it was tested before it's shipped out and I believed it to be a 4 in 1. I've tried clearing out to make an actual hole, and it kinda works, but it isn't all the way cleared out yet.

How do I clear out the rest of it? I've been using my knife, small scissors, and my tweezers. Also, does this just mean I ordered just a Pack and PLay instead of a 4-in-1?

Here's a link to the photos, they were kinda difficult to take,. https://www.flickr.com/gp/132182186@N08/j9JA9u

Looks like a defect to me. I doubt there's much you can do other than try to fix it yourself. Maybe try a heated knitting needles to get up in there? I'd suggest looking up DIY guides for making holes in packers for good technique.

Definitely looks like an oversight on their part. I'd send them an email before you do any additional work on it and ask them what it was exactly that you ordered/tell them the issue you're having. Include the pictures. Because it was on clearance I'm not sure you'll be able to return it or get any kind of refund, though you might since there's an obvious issue with it. But, you need to know what you're working with first and see if they can make any recommendations on how to proceed.

I made an STP out of a Mr. Limpy and I used a heated screwdriver to punch the initial hole. I am not sure what kind of material the FreeTom is made with, but the big issue I encountered was needing that the screwdriver basically just displaced material to either side of the hole, and I needed something to prop it open in order to pee with it. And that was fine, because I was using a medicine spoon as a receiver, but for what is supposed to be a self-contained system like the one you bought, it would be an issue.

Good idea on emailing them, I'll get right on that. Hopefully they have some suggestions. I doubt I could get a refund, but that's alright, it wasn't that expensive, so maybe I can just fix it.

I've heard of the heated screwdriver technique, although like you said, it might not work with this material, which is platinum silicone.
Thanks

Literally it just takes a lot of time and a lot of patience. You have the same tools I used so it should be possible, just will take a couple hours of solid work.
