" Five years after New York enacted an anti-discrimination law barring unequal treatment of students based on gender identity and expression, transgender and gender non-conforming students continue to endure " relentless harassment, threats and even violence " at school, the New York Civil Liberties Union says in a new report. The moral of the story: Know your rights. Institutions will trample them unless you stand up for what you deserve.

Par for the course, for pretty much anything that requires that schools (esp. public schools) do something other than BAU (business as usual.)

We had that problem with both of our kids, one of whom was diagnosed with Asperger Disorder and both of whom had real problems creating structure for themselves.  Another family had two (adopted) kids with Fetal Alcohol Syndrom.  IEPs aren't worth the paper they're printed on unless you're in a position to sue -- and the district is small enough that a million dollar judgement isn't pocket change.
