Members of the transgender and queer communities and their allies take to the streets in San Francisco Friday for the annual Trans March. Among them will be members of the Bay Area's vibrant pagan community, who in many ways are setting the tone for how religious institutions can best serve their trans congregants.
Reclaiming and CAYA (Come As You Are) Coven, two pagan groups with deep roots in the area, have been at the forefront of LGBT acceptance within the larger American pagan community. Members and leaders of both groups shared insights with The Huffington Post about how other pagan and non-pagan religious communities can better welcome trans and gender-fluid individuals.

All sorts of good stuff all over the net this morning. I've believed for a long time that with the exception of a few covens, the Pagan/Wiccan community has a lot to offer transgender folks, especially for transwomen reconnecting with the Goddess.
I love this! This gives me hope.
My local Pagan community isn't so accepting, so it's great to see that this isn't the standard. My local goddess temple has a long page on their website detailing why they don't accept trans people. I had to stop attending after I came out. :(

I've always believed pagans generally are more tolerant and open-minded than monotheistic folks. When you're starting with the assumption that there are several valid ways to do things instead of the one true way, it tends to result in a less judgmental mindset. It's not a universal rule, but I think it helps set the range of acceptance you see from people.
I love this post. My local community, and global community, is so wonderful. They have accepted me without hesitation of further questions. It is nice that my spiritual community is so welcoming because without them I doubt that I would have been able to deal with this process. My only wish is that the future will show that all Pagans will become more open minded and accepting.
