Title: Can a TGRC tell you if your current GP is trans friendly?
Post by: Maddy_Aya_W. on June 29, 2015, 03:45:51 PM
I know that they can point you toward a trans friendly doctor, but I was wondering if they have the Intel to tell you wether or not your current GP is trans friendly. I'd like to avoid coming out to a trans unfriendly GP, if possible. Has anyone ever tried asking their local/state TGRC if they can tell you if your GP is trans friendly? Were they able to? Is it kind of a shot in the dark wether they can or not, like I'm thinking it is? I want to begin HRT ASAP, and as painlessly as possible, but I'm not sure my GP will respond positively to that or not. He's a master of psychopharmacology, if that information can help anyone give me an idea as to how he'll react. IDK, I'm just wondering.

Hugs,
Maddy

I kinda went at it back-asswards I think lol... I contacted the transgender resource center in my city and they have a list of providers of all kinds of services and are considered trans-friendly.
I didn't think of testing my current GP--I know he's not on the list but that doesn't mean he wouldn't hypothetically be trans-friendly. I'd rather stick with ones I know going in, are going to be trans-friendly.... my gyno for example was on the list so i chose her. The GP on the list--I think there were 2--both were not taking new patients, so my current GP is not aware of my trans status.

Yeah, I guess the best way to go about it is just call, and see if my GP on is the list. If not, I'm thinking I may just have to test the waters, and see how he reacts. I currently have a psychologist, and a psychiatrist, with corresponding diagnoses. So, I have some medical professionals to back what I say. I'll just.have to hope for the best, and prepare for the worst. Thank you for responding, the information you've given me has been useful.
