I've started updating my documents to reflect my correct gender. I now have my birth certificate, driver license, and social security records updated.
I have health insurance through my employer, and as I understand it, they do not currently cover any gender identity or transition related care. So I am basically paying out of pocket for my HRT right now. I do plan on getting VFS and GCS at some point and it would be out of pocket as well.
Is there any downside to updating my gender on medical records and health insurance at this point? Will I run into issues getting something covered later or is there anything else I should be thinking about?
Thanks!
Once you get your gender changed on your insurance, they will usually cover Estrogen and Spiro meds. These meds are not uncommon for cis-females. Even though my insurance has a transgender exclusion, since I changed my gender they have been covering my meds.
