So ummm I am going to my grandmas on the 2nd, there is going to be her and my two uncle's there. Well anyways she has a pool, its out in the country and well I am pre-op. I have never been swimming since I started transitioning though I did buy a bathing suit a while ago. It's a two piece and the bottom has a mini-skirt kinda thing attached to it. I really want to enjoy the pool but I am really anxious about it. I don't know what to do, as I mentioned in some of my other posts, i never wear skirts dresses or shorter shorts out and nearly always wear a sweater when i go out. So I am having a really hard time with this.
I assume it is a private pool and grandma knows all about you. I would say, have fun and don't worry. Post surgical I have been out in a pretty skimpy bikini and it works for me. By the way, something your are going to have to get used to. What the hormones added to you may make you float like a cork. As a male I had to force myself above the water when swimming. As a female I floated nicely on the surface.
They all know about me, but them knowing vs being fully accepting is completely different. Worrying about what they think etc, my grandma doesn't really bother me its more my uncles that im worried about judging me. hmm thats kinda interesting I will have to see if it changed :)
I can understand your concern in regards to that, but correct me if I'm wrong are they are going to see you regardless of you going in the pool or not. If they are, then any remarks they are going to make are likely going to be made regardless of your going in the pool or not. Like Dena said, I would go and have fun and not give much thought to it. I know it's easier said than done, but considering it's likely anything they are going to say is going to happen anyway why not enjoy the pool. Let us know how things go. Good luck and Hugs

I kinda get what your saying and it makes complete sense, just wearing a bikini even if it does have a skirt on it kinda emphasizes everything you know?
Totally aware of that. If it helps where the bikini around a bit without going swimming and then if all goes well, then get in the pool. No one is really going to notice under the water though. It's when your out that people notice what we where generally. Hugs

Probably be more comfortable just jumping in the pool as quick as i can :P Ill figure something out thank you though
When I started my transition I was living on an off shore island with beaches to die for. Over that first Summer I either wore a well fitting black one piece bathing suit or else a bikini and my friends said I looked just fine. All I did was tuck carefully and I had no nasty bulges to ruin my day. If you're wearing a bikini with a skirt you shouldn't have any problems at all.
Depending on the style or skimpiness of the bikini, you could always wear a very small tight pair of undies under?
Just a thought...
Of course your last post works too ;D
Enjoy the swim

i actually tried it on today to make sure it still fit and did that to make sure everything was secure
I bought my first bathing suit last November on a trip and tried it out for the first time in the hotel pool. I guess I was fine with it but this was pre-FFS at the time. Thankfully no one else was around. It was a huge mental milestone for me and something of a hurdle but now that I've done it once I'm never looking back. I've worn it in front of my somewhat conservative mother and she approved. She said it looks good on me and more importantly shouldn't freak anyone else out.
Now I'm post-FFS and I'm completely comfortable with the idea. I wear small, tight underwear to hold a tuck and it disappears under the suit. Similar to yours it is two-piece with a skirted bottom. The top extends all the way to the waistband so I'm less self-conscious about the 'straightness' of my waist (wish it were a little narrower). The skirt gives me a sense of visual security over my 'bits' should they slip too much and it also helps disguise my narrow hips.
I don't notice any bulge in my bikinis, but I did notice I had to wax/shave...
I am still pre-ffs the only way im going to be able to do that is if my dad loans me money for it. He's getting a big insurance settlement and he said he would think about it. Better than a no :). I shave anyways so I am not worried :), I am glad you were able to try it out without anyone else being around that probably helped alot.
SWIM DRESSES!!! I used to be overly paranoid about being pre-op and swimming but swim dresses cover that part really well for me cause of my pelvic tilt. Even if you don't have a deep pelvic tilt, it will still cover that area pretty well without drawing focus. I feel like swim skirts do add more focus towards that area since its a part of a two piece, you could balance it out by having a top that's ruffled or has a striking pattern.
I live in an apartment / townhouse community with a public pool. I've been going in the pool all summer with my 2 year old and no one has said anything to me. Don't know if its no one noticing or no one caring. Some residents do know I'm trans because I've told them, but not all do. My friend actually told me my defect is actually more noticeable in my shorts then my bathing suit. I wear a 2 piece with a skirt bottom and bikini top. The skirt should keep you pretty covered. Oh and I don't tuck either I tried it for the pool and it didn't stay because I swim a lot in the deep end and under water.
I guess I just have to do it and get it over with. Still really anxious though, hey maybe it will actual help me when I come back home too, maybe ill be more comfortable in general if I sensitize myself to it when im up there as much as I can. Thank you for all the replies :). O and im not worried about anything umm falling out of place or whatever I just will put a tight pair of underwear underneath already tried it and it works well :)
