Title: Hello! MTF wondering why and what makes me look boyish vs. fem
Post by: Haradonia on July 22, 2015, 04:18:36 PM
Im a transgender male to female, 18, wondering what makes someone (me) look boyish/masculine vs feminine.

I'm not exactly looking to get surgery on my face any time soon, and just started hormone therapy(month 4). I was wondering what makes my face look feminine vs boyish, and if so how would I be able to fix that. I know when my hair will grow out it would probably look feminine, but just wondering why it doesn't look completely feminine with short hair, and what features cause this. I have overall soft features and 120 pounds and even though small hips and waist (I believe possibly I can pass as an athletic girls body type), so other than my face I don't think it would be that hard to transition body wise. But Im not sure, so I would like to know your opinion!

Also, side note, what would be a good short hairstyle in the meantime, and what long hairstyle would best compliment my face.

Honest answers would be best :)

Took a look at the URL. The only thing I can see is perhaps the hairstyle. With even slightly longer hair, you will look very much like a young woman.

The eyes and ears are strange because most of the time they return an illusion. I have learned to override that illusion and see things as they are as the result of speech therapy and photography but it takes a fair amount of effort to do so.
This comes in handy when attempting to change our image because it means the whole face need not be altered but only the few things that the eye is using to make the determination need to be altered. Using my picture as an after example, I pulled the hair over my forehead to shorten my face. Short hair on the sides rounds out my face. My nose was worked on correcting some shape issues but the size and shape was more or less maintained. The hormones added a small amount of fat to my face softening my features and in the picture light makeup help to cover skin flaws and soften the look of my skin.
The picture of the person in the link is pretty lucky because that face can be made feminine without surgery using much the same process used on my face. I don't see the face as all that masculine but more as not having much of in the way of sexual features in it. A few small changes will make it look feminine.   FFS seems to have become pretty standard now and some people do benefit by it, but many of us can wait for the hormones to do their job and use the trick that CIS women have been using for years.

In my opinion, i think the lower third of your face is what looks masculine. (Chin and Jaw). Your haircut is obviously very boyish, which is why you look that way.

You have great upper eye area expression and its very feminine in my opinion.

I'm going to be honest: I can totally see you look like Carmen Carrera after a year or two of hormones. Don't think about FFS or anything like that yet, hormones will TOTALLY change your face, so take your time and enjoy the ride ^^

Edit: Here take a look between you and Carmen Carrera, I TOTALLY see the similarities :)

Thanks everyone, any more replies is appreciated, but thanks for all the honest answers!
Yea I don't think i will get FFS anytime soon if ever, just can't wait to see how i would possibly look with longer hair and more developed hormones. Thanks :)
