Ok I'm looking to find a doctor that I can go to to get started on T. Any one know of any in pa? I live near gettysburge ( if that helps any)
Harrisburg is well within striking distance and you stand a good shot of finding T friendly health care there. A bit further in Philly is the Mazonni Center
Alder health on camron st. In Harrisburg. Informed consent and sliding scale of no insurance. The have counseling and doctors.

Have any of you went to the one in Harrisburg? I saw a lot of mixed reviews about the place... I'm thinking about the one in Philly but I'm not sure about the travel.

The Mazzoni Center in Philadelphia is amazing, and I travel by bus there and the bus fare isn't too expensive.
I went to fill out the forms on line to go there and it wouldn't let me choose transgender as a reason to go. How far from Philly are you? If u don't mind me asking
I've had no trouble in Harrisburg except appointment scheduling can be tough sometimes. I would be on e already if it weren't for my blood pressure. So they don't cut corners on health. They are convenient though

I'm about 2.5 hours from the Philly area, but it takes me maybe 3 or so hours to get there due to the stops.
Alder health does informed consent. Saw a therapist 2 times to get the letter for hormones. Close to you and friendly. The only hard part might be to get the appointment with the doctor, but if you have the letter then you could choose any doctor you like. Just a thought.

I looked it up and it's about the same for me I got an apt for Aug 31st I'm so excited! Idk what all to expect for my first visit...
Just be honest with your doctor. They will probably ask the usual questions such as any past health issues, how long you have been living as your gender, how long you have felt that way, simple stuff like that. It took me about a month (I think it was about 4 visits) before I was actually given a letter of recommendation to start T. My gender therapist took me out to the store and stuff to get an idea of how I am in a public setting. She wanted to see how my mannerisms were, how people perceived me. It was actually all quite interesting. Obviously each doctor will differ.
When you get your letter of recommendation then it's all easy street from there. My first appointment with him he just asked me the same basic questions, past health, family history. He then took me to an exam room and gave me a physical exam. He felt my lymph nodes, took my blood pressure and weight. He also felt around my boobs which was a bit awkward and felt around my abdomen (he did not touch my privates so don't worry about that lol). Lastly he took my blood, I guess to just get an idea of what I got going on there.
I didn't get my prescription until I went in for my next appointment. He also diagnosed me with hypothyroidism which really explained a lot of symptoms I have been dealing with for a long time. I also have a goiter which is an abnormal enlargement of your thyroid (but it could also be a hereditary thing because my grandma had one). So long story short he gave me a prescription to take care of that as well. He did send me for and ultrasound on my thyroid just to make sure there was no cancerous lumps or anything. All they found were little air bubbles so that was good to hear and see.
I would definitely check out Mazzoni if it is at all possible for you. I'm from NJ but I make the trip into Philly just to go there. They are amazing and respectful and have a lot of experience in trans related matters.
Thanm you everyonr for the help! I've been trying to sit down and write any questions I have down. I still have 2 and a half weeks before my first apt. It feels like the days are dragging by lol. Hopefully now that we have our son for 2 weeks it will help them fly by.
