So I made more progress in coming out and going out in public today. after my therapy session I went to a Starbucks in girl mode, this was probably the worst part of my experience (it involved an encounter with a fundamentalist missionary that had a total lack of respect for both personal boundaries and the beliefs and non-beliefs of others). I went to Friday night services at temple later on, where the rabbi knows I'm trans, and finally went in girl mode and came out. Afterwards, I went out for dinner with some people I knew there. afterwards, I had to make a little trip to wally world, which an be a little scary when your in early transition and go there late at night. I made through the day in girl mode, now the only really difficult obstacle to going full time is not being out to my parents.
Big congrats Rachel, double congrats in fact...
1) for the Missionary, you turned it into a positive - Yay
2) For going into the Temple and coming out en-masse - Yay

The missionary dude was pretty creepy. I am normally willing to answer even somewhat rude and personal questions about being trans if I think they really don't know anything about trans* people because I live in area where there are very few trans* people and and a whole lot of ignorance. The missionary dude totally crossed the line though in more than one way. I think people like that often have a serious lack of perspective about the the rest of world and are used to a world where everyone cis-gender and heterosexual and believes as they do. I think they are mystified and upset when they encounter people with different beliefs and cultural values and have no desire to believe as they do and GSM (gender and sexual minorities) don't see their lives as wrong or sinful because they are a GSM.
You really did a lot this week and need to be proud of yourself.
Be a little outside of your comfort zone so you do not overload. Soon enough you will be doing things you once thought scary but now are not.
Congratulations on your coming out. Each time you do, it seems to get easier. You accomplished much in a short time.
:)
You inspir me
