Title: Overhearing conversations where people are gendering you correctly...
Post by: Ms Grace on July 25, 2015, 07:31:29 PM
I have a webcomic and came out to my readers and fellow cartoonists some 16 months ago to much support - which was awesome. Last night I found a site that was discussing some of my work (positively too, I might add!! ;D ) and they were referring to me as she. It's the little things in life that can really make a difference. I wasn't in need of an ego boost or a positive reaffirmation... but every little one of them helps. Store them up for later when you might need them, I always say.

Overheard (or read) any conversations about yourself lately?

Lol when people use the wrong pronoun and me I began to use the wrong pronoun on them  ;D love the feeling when people get it right, especially when they don't think your around. that spells acceptance to me :P

For the last 2 nights in a row I had cops refer to e as ma'am. Yester day I was sitting in an 24 hr. Subway sandwich shop and a city cop walked buy me and said how you doing ma'am. Then in the same shop tonight a University cop referred to me as ma'am. I guess the hormones are working.

With my voice fixed now it's an automatic "she" from everyone... I could not be happier.

Yesterday I went out to town and was presenting male as usual and while I was in line at the craft store to buy some paints, a little girl and her grandma were talking about Dora the Explorer and how only babies watch it(the little girl was probably 8 or 9 but I'm bad with estimating ages) and anyway, the grandma was telling the girl that when she was  a baby, all she would watch was Dore the Explorer. It was a funny conversation and the little girl was hilarious, so I kept smirking or laughing lightly at their conversation since they were literally like 5 inches in front of me and the little girl looked at me a few times, then looked at her grandma and was like:

'/Gramma/.... I can't tell if he's a kid or not!'

It made my day and eased all anxiety that I had up until then! I'm pre everything, so the girl being unsure of my age(I look like an 18 year old female but like a 14 year old male... SO...) but being certain I was a boy made me happy =)
