I have been thinking for quite a long time now, i'm trying to plan my coming out and transition perfectly because I like to be super organised about things like this ::) ::)
The name i'm learning towards is: Alia
pronounced Ah-lee-uh
I'm wondering if you guys think it's suitable as it's actually an Arabic or Muslim name of which I am not. Although I am white/black mixed race which is why I think it could work.
Do you guys have any advice on choosing?
I like it, don't know what you look like though so I can't say if it suits you, but yeah, hehe.
In terms of choosing, whatever you do choose, I'd suggest you give yourself a bit of time to get used to it and see if you feel if it suits you. What sounds good might in practice not work all that well when other people are calling you by it. One of the reasons I decided to use a version of my name as my forum name was to give me experience in using it and see how it felt when other people used it to address me. And it was good!! By the time I came to transition I was quite used to it.
I was thinking of the Hebrew word Aliyah, but Alia as an Arabic-based name is beautiful.
Hi Alia
I believe it is good to have a short name, and this one sounds kind and feminine... I did choose my first name as Marie because it is actually my second first name, so it is part of me already... and by chance it is short and well known, that helps avoiding questions...
It's a nice name. But only you can decide whether it's right for you.
I went through a few before I settled on what I have now. It gets changed in court next month.
It's a beautiful name. Grace said what recall needs to be said. Fact is try a name out for awhile to see if you like it or not because you need to find a name that is you. One that you love through and through and not a name because well I had to pick one. The one I went with is one I had time to get used, but also had thought over for a long time. Good luck and hugs

I was only so lucky to have received my name "Kate" by a whimsical accidental phone call, on a fated night in June of 2009. This was also before I fully realized myself to be female.
But that name sounds nice. I can't really judge on a name suitable as such of no pictures to see what kind of name could be suitable. But if you like the name, test those waters and see if you can bring yourself to keep it or keep on trying out a name until it fits.
Kate <3
Hey, Alia :)
Yes, that sounds good :)
I simply added an " A " ;)

I like that spelling of Aliyah simply because it seems more intuitive about how to pronounce it but, the sound remains as sweet. I kept the name my sister gave me as a three year old. Other people, at the time, didn't like it and said it was hard to pronounce and wanted me to have the first letter of my old name as the first letter of my new name. I guess some do that to make transition easier but for who, and how long is transition anyway? You might have your new name for long time and I agree it is smart to try it on for a while.
